I apologize if this is on the site somewhere, but what is that icon right underneath the show/hide navigation bar icon? What does it do, and why is it there?

    Thanks in advance.

I am not sure if this is what you are talking about but it seems it's the reader mode (does it look like an open book?). It opens web content in a more readable "article" format. It's best if used in portrait mode.

Note that not all webpages are supported.

It is the private browsing indicator.

Hi Ken, not the reader icon...I have that figured out.

It is in the top right corner, right under the show/hide address bar icon. It is horizontally level with the reader icon (the book) and the web-page title.

It sort of looks like the front of a pair of old 3-D glasses.

@blkyanni, you will have to be more specific. Where and when are you seeing this?

As ajax09g5 said, it's to show that Private Browsing is enabled. It's supposed to resemble an old masquerade mask, from what I can tell.

Is there a reason why my browser doesn't have this private browsing icon?

Within the browser, under options - settings - security, is your private browsing enabled? It will only display when it is enabled. This setting does not save your history and acts the same as Chromes "Incognito" private browsing.

You have to switch on private browsing by swiping down whilst in the browser, and changing the setting in the Privacy & Security options menu to on.

As noted, there is a setting in the BROWSER. If enabled, the browser will not keep track of certain aspects like History and/or Cookies. When you close the browser it "forgets" where you've been so that if you hand you pb to someone else, they can't see what sites you have visited and you log-in info is also not stored.
