I think you misunderstood my post...none of the features that I listed there will be available, no wireless streaming (DLNA), no external storage access, and no video store for Canada (for now anyway).

Maybe it is the lawyer in me, but I couldn't help noticing that the press release stated that OS 2.0 "is expected to be" released in February. I was filled with immediate disquiet; that wasn't exactly a confident pronouncement.

Safe to say, if they're demo-ing this week it's close to complete. Possibly "completely complete" and just waiting on a green light for release.

Pulling apart the beta makes it absolutely 100% clear that RIM is working on USB OTG support. The fact it works on a rooted device isn't because the rooters added it, they just enabled it in its current beta state wheras RIM is waiting for it to be finished. Given the current progress I think OTG in 2.0 is very likely, if not it'll probably show up soon after in a 2.1 or something.

i was hoping the apps are all on hold because they are waiting for os 2.0. from the press release, it seems that way. which is great. come feb, the playbook will feel like a brand new device again.

Did you mistype that? Obviously the native email stuff was the first item mentioned.

Or were you thinking that because the term "native" wasn't used, they're playing some sort of trick here? Trust me, that's absolutely not the case... heck, we've seen the code in the beta for this for months now... All the things mentioned could not be done on the phone and merely accessed through bridge. This is the PlayBook native email, no question about it.

The press release says its a video store front so I am wondering if they are going to announce a partnership with a movie/tv provider to use their service through our bb id's.

It would be alot easier than trying to set up a video store from scratch and getting caught up to the others who are so far ahead of them.

Maybe globally. But in the US I think the apps situation needs the most attention. And by apps I just mean getting the key ones on board like NetFlix, Skype, etc. And content is a big deal too, more so than BBM in the US. I think anyhow.

this is great. i switched from ios in mid november when i got my playbook, sold the iphone and got a curve 3G 9300. i didnt lie the keyboard so i sold it and bought a 9860 thinking i would like it better as i came from the all touch iphone. i hated the 9860 so i sold it and bought a 9810 but in a few weeks im getting the 9900. at this point with the new keyboard sharing, trackpad control and so on i must say one thing.

i am so glad i am not an owner of a 98xx model!

RIM will not give away BBM for free to people who don't own BB phones, it's a key differentiator in world markets outside of the US where it's huge. Anyone who has a BB can use BBM on their PB, anyone who doesn't own a BB does not get BBM as per usual, no big deal, if you want it buy a BB7 or BBOS10 phone

Wow! In the Feb OS2 release, its going to feel like I got a brand new PB tablet and need to check out all the new features, short cuts and options. An upgrade of this magnitude is probably rare in the tech world for a nearly year-old tablet and will boost interest in BB phones and tablets for 2012 and on. The beta testers will finally be rewarded.

We all know it was released too early, so let's say it was born premature and put in an incubator till it reached full term.
