Long ago my Playbook stopped being able to accurately record voice notes. The record function worked but the input level was pegged all the way to the right and the recording was severely garbled. I tried using a telephone earbuds and mic cord plugged into the PB and that is an effective work-around. But it's a hassle to walk around with the cord attached.
Does anyone know what the problem is (hardware or software) and if there is a solution to the problem?

Sounds like hardware to me, BUT try this simple fix, blow compressed air on the mic hole.
But not with the garage hose, Use a puff bulb,
Is the audio also garbled when you record video? If not, it's not likely a hardware problem.
Video recording is the same: garbled unless the telephone earbuds/mic cord is used.
Tried the compressed air--no luck. :(

Same with me recording a voicenote and video sounds are all garbled but it works perfectly fine when calling someone
