Does it always crash? Your title seems to say it lags (sometimes). How much free memory are you showing in settings, and how much free storage are you showing? (Settings/About/Hardware)
There is some anecdotal evidence that the video lag might be caused by either not sufficient space or possibly even fragmentation of the free space - you copy files, erase file, copy more and erase stuff - the pb might be having trouble indexing or finding gaps to store the new video. And while it is not a spinning harddisk, the OS still has to contend with writing the video to the disk. One guy found that by forcing encryption (it is an option), the video stopped lagging - presumably because the data is re-written consecutively as it encrypts. Again, some speculation is involved.
I have lots of free space on the PB so it's not that I think. Probably has more than 45 GB free.
It was a fresh OS reload before I took the PB to the Dominican with me.
It basically will freeze while recording, as you are recording the video it will freeze for a very long time and this can be seen in the video play back. It does it every time, and sometimes it says there isn't enough memory to run the application. At which point it will freeze and big have to swipe up to exit the application.
It takes pictures fine but won't record videos properly at all.
One thing you can try is using the android Camera app and see if you have the same problem with it. There are a number of ways to access android Camera. One way is to install "Quick App Manager" from app world and then tap on Camera from the main screen. If this app works ok, it may be easier to use it rather than going through the hassle of wiping your Playbook.

I have nothing else running in the background.

Questions - Has this suddenly started happening or has it always been a problem? Have you sideloaded any android or other apps?

I haven't side loaded anything on the PB and it has been happening for a few months now. I haven't downloaded any apps on it, I just use it as a pdf reader for engineering files but I thought I'd bring it to the Dominican and ended up using it to record videos
The PB has a one year warranty to the original purchaser. It also has 90 free Tech support. I do not know how Rim deals with "quasi-tech support v. warranty"
