First time trying this - I converted one of my DVDs to MP4 format ( thinking that this is a format that the PB supports ), copied it across to my Videos folder but when I try to watch the video I receive a message "this format is not supported"....does anybody know the correct format that I should convert to?
I checked out a handful of conversion programs...DVD Catalyst looked like my best shot at not screwing something up...I found it very simple to work with.

Thanks very much for all of the replies - I first tried Handbrake ( as it was free :-) ) but it sat there for ages scanning the DVD so I aborted and downloaded DVD Catalyst 4, on special offer for $9.95.......worked perfectly! Now to see if it can decode BBC Iplayer files........
I use Foxreal with the following settings and it has been working great (for Blu-ray's). Also ahve use Format Factory to change AVI's to an optimized MP4.,also works.

I've been using pavtube which will rip blu-ray and standard dvd. Settings are h264 for video codec, aac for audio codec. Ripped at 1280*720 which is the recommended setting on the RIM media guide http://docs.blackberry.com/en/smartp..._(English).pdf
According to their specs PB supports AAC. The only problem I ran into was on some existing AVI files the audio was AC3, which didn't work (picture but no sound). Using Format Factory I changed it to AAC and it worked. MP3 would also work I suppose.
I am using FoxReal to convert DVD movies to MP4 and it works just fine. My question is how can I select just the movie and not select all the other content that is on the DVD. This will help to keep the output file to a manageable size. Thanks for the help.
I'm not positive about this, but I think after you hit the button to "add DVD", you'll see a list of check boxes, starting with "Main Title" and then a check box for each chapter etc. If you click on the "Main Title" box (which should show the length of the movie in hours/minutes) instead of using the 'Full Disc Copy" button it will just convert the movie with no extras. Using MP4 format then you should end up with a file that isn't too huge (somewhere between 1-2GB). I've found a regular DVD usually comes in around 750mb or so. Not positive this will work but worth a shot.
