- The download speeds are painfully slow on my Playbook. I am using a Lynksys WRT160N wireless N broadband router with Comcast cable as my provider. Using the Speedtest.Net test, the download speed on my laptop is 18.35 Mbps using the wireless connection and 30.53 using the direct cable connection. Also using the Speedtest, my Playbook has a download speed of only 1.04 Mbps. In fact, when I first started my Playbook yesterday, the download of the initial update (287 Mb) took an hour and a half to download! These tests were done with the laptop and the Playbook right next to the router, so there is nmo interference or blocked signal.
Is this normal, or do you think that I have a defective Playbook? Are there settings that I can change to improve the speed that I am getting? I would really appreciate any ideas!!04-20-11 09:42 AMLike 0 - I dont know if yours is defective, but an exchange couldnt hurt given you probably dont have too much invested in terms of software personalization . Before this however you could try a wipe and reset, etc if you havent already.
My bridge browser is painfully slow however I think this is due to the documented issues with the torch...
i just tried loading CNN.com and took about 3-5 secs on wifi, about 10 to be fully loaded via tethering, and about 2 mins through the bridge . The fact that the tether mode is speedy and also over 3g with bluetooth on the same phone, I have concluded this must be a software issue and is not my network or just a slowdown from bluetooth..You are not alone.04-20-11 10:12 AMLike 0 -

Given the tethering shows that their is no reason the playbook cannot stream 3G at speeds comparible to 3G browsing on phone, I must assume the bridge browsing speed is due to some type of software issue (either with my Torch or the bridge on the PB itself).
Hopefully this gets better with time. For now, however, I have no reason that I need the bridge browser and can just tether if a wifi connection is not available - at least I am lucky I am not on a provider that charges for tethering. The other bridge apps appear to be working properly (however I wish SMS messages would get forwarded as well as the well documented missing BBM).
Just hoping the next update fixes all of this ...04-20-11 10:47 AMLike 0 - I noticed last night that my PlayBook's WiFi had a much weaker signal than other devices. My modem is in the basement. My girlfriend and I both have MacBooks and on the second floor we can both stream video without problems. Last night we were trying out our PB and both devices were lagging behind and my PB even lost connection twice.
I'm assuming the radio isn't as good as other devices. Even my phone gets a stronger WiFi connection than my PB.04-20-11 04:20 PMLike 0 -

- I am getting results of around 19mbs on my wired PC (from Speedtest.net), around 8mbs on my wifi laptop and Ipad's (2 x iPad 2's) but only 1-3.3mbs on my Playbook.04-29-12 03:24 PMLike 0
