USB charger port - can i use it differently?

Hi - does anyone know if I can use my micro USB charger port on my playbook and a micro male USB to female full size USB adapter to download data from a full sized USB connected device (as I would on my computer)?

What you are asking for is "USB on-the-go" (search for "USB OTG" in the forum and elsewhere).
AFAIK it has been performed only once on Playbook, with a "rooted" system (i. e. a version of the OS that cannot be one of the recent ones which are "unrootable").

Convincing, but not for the faint of the heart, and... too late if you are on the last OS version...
Now, many sources converge to tell us the BB 10 OS will indeed support OTG, and this will become available for Playbooks... some time after it's announced for BB phones... say in at least 6 months...
