Bought my Playbook on Amazon for $400 back in Sept 2011, haven't used it very much since then. Recently after loaning it to a work colleague, who reset it after finishing, I am unable to get past this 'cannot connect to update server'--even though it's on the current OS. When I called Blackberry for help, I was told by a technician that my serial number was registered to another person before Sept 2011�so basically I was sold a used tablet marked 'new' on the site and invoice. Amazon was kind enough to refund half the purchase price, but I still cannot get any support for it. I see that the Playbook update server has been off for days now based on other forum posts, sounds like the 'old days' at RIM.
Well, just kinda sad really. Thought at least i can use my PlayBook in the end for Waze and torque in my jeep. (torque with Bluetooth) . That both didn't happen. Then I found I can use it for a baby monitor with my ip camera. Now this **** happened. Well, it got replaced with an ipad mini earlier today.
I'll keep it around for when some toddlers come over to play some games on it and keep them quiet.

Mine got replaced with a win8.1 tab, not RT either. I couldn't be happier. The pb had a good 3 yr run and in 3 years I'm sure I'll be ready to replace the win tab.
I was working with a technician to correct another issue. He asked me to delete the Desktop Software then reinstall it. The deletion process stops before finishing and I can't reload it. I am trapped in "no mans land"! Not good ...

They turned it off to see if anyone would miss it. If nobody complained they would keep it off permanently. Let's see if the update servers are still running a year from now - I think they will be long gone by then!
