9:16 PM South Dakota, still the dreaded 65792. 1/26/14
Hopefully you meant 1/27/14. It's 3.18pm on the 28th here. Many people have wanted to put more time into their day, but I hope the planet isn't giving it to us. I think we'll know more tomorrow afternoon.
Maybe it's a sign that an update is coming! I LOL'd myself. Maybe they re-purposed the update servers to handle the load from the soon to be released BB10 update. I tried last night as well with my playbook and also was met with a can't contact server.
Maybe it's just another nail in the coffin...Playbook is end of life and therefore they are taking the update servers offline and no longer supporting the hardware.
Had to wipe my playbook two days ago cause it was freezing when navigating. Now I'm stuck at cannot connect to server. I'm realizing now that this why blackberry is in last place in the mobile world. Why the hell don't they allow users to skip the setup update process!? In case this type of thing happened or when a user doesn't have access to internet. It goes to show that there's a bunch of donkeys scratching their balls all day working at Waterloo. Dumb asses!
I wiped playbook about 5 days ago and attempted to reinstall. I have have not been able to do so as I keep getting the message that I could not connect to update server. Also I am unable to reinstall using Desktop management through my laptop. Is the server offline or am I doing something wrong??? It is now January 28, 2014 and this has been going on for days....really frustrating. I would appreciate any help of information. Many thanks.
Well, this is concerning. It's a pretty dumb move to render legacy devices inoperable even if you EOL them. Particularly if you are worried about a falling market share. I'm typing this on a 10 year old Apple iBook G4 currently running Lubuntu 13.10. That's a hint, not that anyone is listening...
IF they've just killed the server, rendering lots of playbooks inoperable and not telling people who might do a restore and render their playbooks inoperable, if would finish me with Blackberry. That kind of behavior would be p#ss poor.

Yes, I'm sorry, I meant 1/27/14 My bad still not fixed
I can't see them preventing you from updating your playbook when they know fine well you have to to reinstall the os. If they have there surely would be severe legal implications. Not developing it is bad enough but to do that and not let you install your own os they might as well have came in your house and smashed it themselves.
All good and well if you have a backup! Personally I think with the 10.2.1 rollout they may have robbed part of the PlayBook server temporary to help buffer bb10 updates. We all seen how well it went when they released bbm from android and ios! They may be needed extra infrastructure they already had instead of increasing it just for one big surge.
