If android can be unlocked on BB10 can it not be unlocked on the PlayBook? Both run QNX.

Technically it's possible. But there is no one at Blackberry working on the Playbook anymore. They announced end of life for the product last year.
I think this would breath new life into the PlayBook, make old customers happy. I use my Z30 and Playbook everyday. Although Netflix is ok on my phone I would love to use the bigger screen on the PlayBook. In kinda hoping that when some publishers list their Android apps to BlackBerry World that some trickle down to the PlayBook or blackberry sees the potential I do in this tablet...

nice thought but not likely,,, the playbook is still considered a secure device & unlocking it would eliminate that...
No not unlock the PlayBook, just give us the the 4.2 runtime that BB10 is getting in the next 10.2 update

I have to agree with the OP. I still think that the PlayBook is the best tablet device. The operating system is fine.
All that is needed to bring the device in line with the BlackBerry 10 suite is regular updates to the Android runtime.
I just side loaded ES File Browser on the weekend and Et viola.. wireless networking on the PlayBook! Brilliant!

Worthy idea, would it involve much work?
The runtime would appear to be the way to go for those of us still hoping for some sort of upgrade to our PBs. Certainly seems more likely/do-able that getting BB10 on the PB.
I wonder if a crowd funding movement for android runtime update would spur Blackberry to make it happen...
Can we have a fully working bridge back again as well please? Oh and can I win the lottery next week please?

Well in honesty if they want to PB2 it BB best be giving access to it or else who gonna buy a 2 knowing BB will just pull the plug completely on support, even runtime...
Damage was enough with the BB10 non delivery... No runtime update just tells consumers don't buy our next tablet product because we will completely shove it up your *** in return.
Even BB10 device owners will be hesitant given what happened to PlayBook 1.
Once bitten twice shy.
it will most likely have allready been done during the os10 compilation and is on a pc somewhere
I imagine a lot of parts of 10 were up and running on test books before they were joined up. all os's are written by teams working on separate bits.
just needs someone to make it happen.
Petition and or crowd funding..
...could this happen?

I hereby state this thread as priority status for Blackberry! onward with the playbook! Updates we must have!
Playbook only supports upto Gingerbread OS.
but, if it runs on qnx then it should be possible to run a 4.2 runtime... the playbooks specs are as good as most android phones... android apps are very light. And I've used this tablet to finish Galaxy on fire 2 so we know it has the the horse power to run graphic intense games...
Since.the PB is running QNX and the the Android runtime is on top of that as sort of an emulator the problem is much harder than simply running Android. And some Android 4.x *apps may be light but what about games and some others that involve fast graphics and computations. The PB needs more RAM and a faster processor to handle the problem of Android 4.x satisfactorily.
That's not true. He it was announced there wouldn't be major updates, not that no one is working on it.

I think the words from some bloke that doesn't even work at BlackBerry anymore was 'there will no more significant updates' Well it's under new management now so who knows!
