How do I uninstall AOL Mail and any other pre-installed software that I don't use from my PB?
Press and hold for a couple of seconds and it should start shaking with a trashcan symbol beneath the icon... press trashcan and confirm delete... then click on the check mark on the top left in the bar.
That being said, the next OS upgrade may well put it back onto your PB. Look, these are put there as a convenience to you. If you do not like them, you have three choices:
1. Delete them with each OS upgrade.
2. Live with them and move them to the bottom of the list.
3. Put the icons you actually use in your "Favorites" section and ignore the "All" category.
While I don't use AOL, and have not since 1994, I know that others love and use their AOL accounts.
Live and let live. If this is thre greatest challenge you face today, you lead a charmed life, my friend! ;)
Charmed life or not, he just asked a simple question, which is why this forum is here.
Don't really care about any of that... just wanted to know how to uninstall apps and programs. I'm so sorry that I have offended you by asking a pretty reasonable question about PB functionality. Cheers mate!
I think tone of voice gets lost.
The real issue is that SOME of these icons cannot really be deleted. You can delete them but then the darn OS will remind you of a rather small update. It will have the same version number of the one you have. What it will do is reinstall what rim has decided is suppose to be on the pb. So while you may be able to get rid of an icon, it may just be back.
I've not figured out which rim thinks are indispensible (although some will not have the trash can and obviously can't be removed). Some will allow removal but, like the Terminator, they will be back!
...The real issue is that the OP got a fast answer to his question, and I had exactly the same question and got the answer I needed without waiting by searching the forum! Its amazing when Crackberry works the way it is supposed to! Thanks!
Saying that, other than doing a complete restore and wipe I haven't had the AOL mail return, upgraded to beta and they weren't there either I thought.
Exactaly as said, press on any of the app icons, and do not remove finger until you see the little trash can icon beside them, then you can delete any item with the trash can easily. Good luck, check out the http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...t-know-671764/ link, so much I didn't know there!
I'm having a difficult time understanding what exactly is achieved by deleting these unused apps. Will/is there an appreciable and measurable increase in performance by doing so, and if not, why bother; just don't use them.
Now, when you click on the App World icon on your PB, you will see all the apps that are installed on your PB, and you will see a tab to delete them if you wish.
Yeah just press and hold on the icon until it shakes and you see the garbage can in the top left of the icon then press on the garbage can and it will delete it.
Now that I have a native Email app (a converted to .bar Android app) on my Playbook, I have no need to use those web links anymore, I deleted all of them.
Well a good reason for me to remove them was that I found them to be an eyesore once I no longer needed them. :p
To me there was just no point in those icons being there anymore.
It is in the case of the Email shortcuts as they are just that, shortcuts.
They are basically just a bookmark/icon in the app drawer, not an actual app.
I was wondering the same thing, Wish2K. Isn't it similar to icons on a regular computer? You can delete the icon, but doing that doesn't delete the program.
AOL gives me nightmares! It has to go if I don't use it it's outta here! As far as performance improvements it's probably nothing measurable to the naked eye, but I'm sure it is a positive. Less is more...
....and I thought I had OCD? :p
The performance improvements will be Zero. Like I said, the AOL Email Icon is just a bookmark to the web version of AOL, as are the Gmail and Hotmail icons. These are not applications, there is no email app installed on your Playbook, the only thing you can delete is the icons in the app drawer. Once you delete those they are gone, there is nothing else to remove. They are just bookmarks to their respective website sign in pages.
Thanks for the clarification! Learning something new all the time.
Hey Megs, now that we're on the subject of icons, in my browser I have the "icon" for crackberry, but it's not an icon, rather a front page of the site. How can I make an icon of CB as a quick link bookmark?
As of right now I don't think there is a way unfortunately. Best you can do that I know of at the moment is to zoom in on the Crackberry icon in the top left corner of the page before adding it to the home screen. It's still not perfect though, but at least the CB logo will be a bit more visible.
Thanks. :)
