When playing locally stored videos yes, when streaming from the internet no.

You can when playing videos in the Videos app, if you go into presentation mode. When playing a video through HDMI, tap the screen and then tap the icon in the top right corner. This will put the PB in presentation mode and the PB's screen will time out as normal but the HDMI video will keep going. It also may be possible to use Presentation mode in Docs to Go.

Cheers guys. I was hoping to use the pb for streaming from my nas to the telly in our other room downstairs using kalemsoft media streamer (I paid for it so I may as well get some use out of it), cheaper than buying a wdtv live that's for sure.

Just a pity that a) I can't connect hdmi when it's on the dock (the only major drawback of the pb imho and b) the screen can't be blanked. But it'll do the job.
