i sideloaded your app, but how come its icon doesnt appear in the All tab?

May be i get you wrong. If you mean how to add new torrents so that they appear in all tab, just download torrent file via browser (be sure its extension is ".torrent") or place torrent file manually in shared/downloads folder by means of file manager. When PlayTorrent is active it is looking for new torrent files there (shared/downloads) every 5 seconds. If torrent file is found PlayTorrent moves it to its app folder and adds to torent list in All tab.

If by some reason torrent file disappeared from shared/downloads but is not shown in All tab, then it was of bad (damaged/unsupported) format. Please send it to me if that is your case.

I think now it is too late to turn it on. So use it, let it be the demo version. You do not need to mail me until you get message about registration code.

Here is the description I prepared for RIM:

BitTorrent client for BlackBerry� PlayBook™.

Features:
- Supports BitTorent protocol version 1.0, no extensions (it means you
can download and upload, but it is less effective than a modern PC
BitTorent client).
- Does not support DHT, peer exchange.
- Does not create new torrents from your local files.
- Does not open port for incomming connections (your upload speed can be low).
- When opened and active it prevents BlackBerry� PlayBook™ from going
into stand by mode
- To save battery power displays own screen saver after 3 minutes of
idle (since last user input event)
- Every few seconds searches for new torrents in your shared/downloads folder.
- Preserves required disk space before download.
- Stops downloading if disk free space is low.
- Supports multifile torrents and allows to select files to be downloaded.
- Displays common torrent information and draws upload and download
traffic chart.

How to Use:
- Download torrent file regularly in browser app (assuming PlayTorrent
is also active, or run PlayTorrent after you downloaded torrent file
in browser).
- In a few seconds it will be loaded into PlayTorrent automatically.
- Note, torrent file will be deleted from shared/downloads folder.
- Activate loaded torrent to select files to be downloaded (for
multifile torrent only).
- After the torrent is downloaded, stop it, close PlayTorrent and
check out shared/documents/downloads folder.

Controls:
- Top buttons: Delete torrent, Activate torrent, Deactivate torrent,
Activate all torrents (permitted 3 simultaneous downloads and 3
uploads), Pause all active torrents (click again to reactivate them),
Deactivate all torrents.
- Bottom buttons are used to filter torrent list.
- Use drop down button in torrent list cell to show or hide detailed
torrent info.
- Use plus and minus button in detailed view to set time scale for
traffic chart.

It was successfully tested on more than 15 trackers.
It is first version, it is written from scratch, it is not a port of
known torrent engine.
So please contact support in case of any bug occured.

I've tried it out. I like the auto add feature, makes it a lot easier then downloading, and searching through the device to find the file.

First I tried to download a TV show, Criminal Minds, 10000+ seeders. Went to 7% fairly fast, then wouldn't go any further. I tried restarting the program, device, even the torrent, nothing could get it to go again. Then I tried a single song and it was very smooth. I think it was done in a minute or so.

I will update when I get back home and have wifi as I am one of the strange PB owners who don't have a BB to go with it.

The UI isn't bad, but takes a couple of tries to hit the play button.

There is an android app that will let you control Utorrent remotely so you can download torrents on your home PC. Not sure if it will work when the android player is released, would be nice though.

+1 PlayTorrent works...mostly. I tried to download an avi file about 700 MB with only a few seeders and it couldn't establish a connection. There is no "Force Start" option. I tried another w hundreds of seeders and it queued after a minute or two and then downloaded at a constant rate. That 700+ MB file took a few hours to complete.

I'd like to see the font size increased a point or two. Question...while the downloaded media file can be seen under the appropriate player app I do not see it anywhere using AIR Browser. Where oh where do these files get saved and how best do I access them to edit/manage?

Guys, please don't steal films. I work in the industry and most of the people it employs are struggling to get by, so every film which is stolen and not rented or bought means less money going back to those people who rely on it to make a living. It doesn't hurt Brad Pitt, but it does damage the careers of the tens of thousands of people you've never heard of who work hard to get films made...

I had this on my OG Galaxy Tab and I wish it were available for the PlayBook. What I DON'T understand are the copious amounts of remote clients?! Laaaaaaame! Do people even use these?

EDIT: I posted this before I read about PlayTorrent - which I'm going to try when I get home later. I still don't understand why REMOTE Clients are so popular. Especially if I want to download a video on my PlayBook to WATCH it on my PlayBook.

well first of all although a client on a portable device can come in handy sometimes, its pretty much useless unless you have it plugged in the whole time since all the traffic is going to be a huge battery drain. i'm currently using playtorrent right now and its doing ok.

secondly, remote clients RULE. i have an htpc thats on 24/7 and constantly downloading/uploading whatever. its connected to my hdtv. theres no way im going to VNC into the system or turn on the tv every time i need to check/stop/start/add a new torrent. remote clients allow me to add torrents from my laptop/from my iphone/anywhere.

and alongside notification apps like prowl for my iphone, i'm notified immediately when new torrents are added (i have RSS feeds for automatic downloads) and when they're finished as well. this all comes in super handy and i haven't had cable tv in ages now.

I know Frostwire has an android client, not sure about blackberry. Either way, it's just better to use a PC, faster downloads and much more storage space.

I'm running PlayTorrent right now. My feedback:

It's slow (slow to download, slow to respond in user interface, takes forever to reserve disk space for downloads).

If this could be improved, this app would be killer.

Is there any word from the developer, if this is an on-going project, or if it is being shelved? Not having it on App World is unfortunate, but it was easy to sideload. Especially now that I have localbar (yohan.es/playbook/localbar/) installed.
