After following the forums here for the playbook for the last year, two weeks ago I finally got to invest in one for my business - self employed pianist. Due to all the excellent contributions and discussions on this site I've been able to go into it researched and ready, and I've not been disappointed, indeed quite the opposite the playbook is integrating very nicely into my everyday life.

So just wanted to say thank you to all contributers, you've answered lots of my questions without me having to post a word. I run a search on the questions that come up for me and invariably someone has already asked/ answered it, it's great.

Next week I get an upgrade on my antiquated phone and have a choice between, the Bold 9790, Curve 9320 or 9360. I don't have the option to wait until BB10 phones arrive so will go with one of these. i know there are technical/ pricing differences which I can research, but my main question is regarding battery life, with bridging do they each stand up ok or does the 9790 in particular struggle to make a full day?

Any of the BB's that have the OS7 system should be good for you...
Check them out in person to get the feel of each one and choose the best fit for you.

The battery life is well discussed in their each forum section too. Sorry, but I am not familiar with each device's battery life.

Well if you're like me I rarely surf etc on my phone since I use my pb for that now so screen size on the phone isn't a big deal to me. I have to plug my phone in after 3 or 4 hours but I'm on the PB surfing etc for probably 40 minutes out of an hour. I could go longer but with all of the threads on phones bricking or not charging after the battery ran down I'm not going to push it. This is where there is no wifi.

So I think it depends on how long and what your doing. Just being bridged and not doing a whole lot there is little effect on my battery.

I would definitely go somewhere and play with them before you decide. If you use a keyboard a lot like I do, the 9930 (or 9900) has the best one I've ever used. The curve is nice but the keyboard is a little smaller. Go give them a whirl and see how they feel to you. Have fun!

As a guy with fat fingers and poor eyesight I love my Torch 9810. Best of both worlds. Full screen and a slider keyboard.

I stream music(sirius & slacker) via bridge often. My 9900 will last about 7 hours straight before I need to recharge. My 9800 was about the same. I can't speak for the other phones but with the reputation the 9900 has for short battery life, you should be the same or better.

Go all out, go for the best BlackBerry on the market right now if you can afford it. The BlackBerry 9900 (or 9930 depending on your carrier). I have a 9360 and it's cool, but the the 9900/9930 is the best.

Any OS7 device with a physical keyboard should complement your Playbook nicely. I'm using the 9790 because I want a keyboard on a compact phone, the smaller the better for me. If I didn't have the playbook I would go with the 9900 for the bigger screen, very swanky looking device in my opinion. I'm not having battery issues with the 9790, but it is obviously not comparable to my old 9700.

I had my 9790 for 6 months and I just recently bought a white 9900. But not because the 9790 was a bad phone but because the 9900 does what the 9790 does 40x better eh! I came from a black 9900, therefore I felt the difference. I would go with the 9790 because it pretty much a baby version of the 9900 eh and it's a bold series phone, can't go wrong eh.

I agree with the others. It needs OS 7, and specifically you need it updated to 7.1 to take advantage of the wifi hotspot feature.

Good to see you are enjoying your PlayBook. Although I have a 9930 (which I would recommend, but seeing you have it narrowed down to 3 already) I have seen a lot of happy folks on here with their 9790. I've used a 9630 before the 9930 and preferred the keypad style of those two versus the Curve's separated keys, YMMV of course. Get out and try them all, see what you like to type on and use. You may even find that you like using a touchscreen phone better.

Hopefully the BlackBerry phone you end up with will be implemented as easily and as well as your PlayBook. Happy shopping and "Be Bold!"

unless you need to take good quality pictures and/or want a big screen. if either of those are the case, the 99xx series certainly isn't the best.

Can't really tell about he battery life. 9900 rocks for me ... never had battery problems but don't know for other devices.

True, 99XX might not be a best choice. I love my 9800 Torch due to the presence of physical keyboard and bigger screen and portability at the same time. I was going for 9810 Torch but now I'll be waiting for BB10 phone. I'll skip BB7. It's all based on personal preferences and what you can afford at the same time. Sometimes there are pretty good deals all around.

As you can see everyone has their personal favorite. I would recommend personally putting your hand on each one that is available and find the one that best fits what you are searching for. You will not go wrong with any BB running 7.x.

Really like my Torch 9800 as well; my wife has the Torch 9810 and with the 7.1 OS is pretty sweet. Always like the bigger screen and the optional slider keyboard which I use a lot.

My Torch is a work phone and I'm eligible for an upgrade now so I too am holding out for BB10! I'm pretty sure with the software assists for the virtual keyboard in BB10, it looks like it'll be easy to move from physical to touch.

Your profile doesn�t show your location or carrier, so it is hard for us to offer much more advice than a Bold or Torch with OS 7.1.

Can you consider something like the Torch 9810? It's has OS 7 and is a full screen touch, with slide-out keyboard.

In my opinion, best of both worlds! I had a Curve also, and have used Bolds and Storm. After trying Torch 9810, the screen size so big, I can't go back.

See if you have the option of a Torch. You will get hooked on it too!

I'm about to switch my cellphone from a Nexus One to the 9810. After doing some search, the bold 9900 is a bold 9790 with touchscreen, slightly faster cpu and higher resolution.
The torch 9810 has the same hardware as the bold 9900 but with a bigger screen.
In my opinion, the Torch 9810 is the best out there for the slide keyboard and screen.

Thank to all for your input here. I think I'm heading in the direction of the 9790, but will get into a store to make my final decision.

I work outside a lot and am often on the move so am looking for something compact, fairly sturdy and with a physical keyboard. The 9900 is too big for my needs and now that I have my playbook I also don't feel I need the screen size of the 9810 (which I briefly had in the form of the 9800 a year or so ago), hence looking at either the 9790 or the 9360.

I'm in the UK on Three. I have a question regarding data usage, but will post that as a separate thread.

As someone using the Bold 9900 and have previously tasted the Bold 9790, I said you should go with the Bold 9790.
I know it has lower speed processor, but alas better battery life.
Not to mention the Auto-Focus camera will save you greatly when capturing great pictures.

I love how people give suggestions without actually reading what the OP is looking for lol it was clearly stated that his upgrade options were the 9790, 9320 or 9360 so all of the suggestions stating "9900/9930 is the best, get that" or "9800/9810 because of screen size" or my favourite "without knowing carrier/location we can't help you" were kinda pointless. Telling the OP to get a phone that is either not an option or not available doesn't help.

And as you've now stated that you are leaning towards the 9790, it would appear that you have made your decision. I've found that once you get accustomed to the touchscreen of the OS7 Bold lineup (99xx and 9790) it becomes almost second nature to use the touchscreen for scrolling and app selection as opposed to the trackpad. Whenever I use my gf's 9360, I find myself constantly tapping the screen to open an app or scroll before remembering that its not a touchscreen lol

If I had my choice of the phones you had listed, I would go with the 9790 as well, providing price wasn't a huge concern.
