Is it even, or will it ever be possible to send/receive text messages from the Playbook/BB Bridge. I'm not familiar with the wizardry behind this, but my feeble mind thinks this might not be possible without a SIM card in the PB Perhaps someone could explain what's behind the curtain on this one?
I did find this thread about a side-load app, but I am more interested in the native solution. (Even if it's theoretical! )

Yes dear. Its very much possible. Its the same thing like having BBM through bridge. Logically speaking i would assume that the function of it is to mirror whatever is on your blackberry using bluetooth technology or wi fi for that matter. Its like have ur BB screen on your playbook and bluetooth provides response. Its going to be a lil more difficult than BBM i suppose but very much possible.
This 2.1 is pretty solid for a beta. I believe it will launch this week. I'm very much looking forward to the text messaging and wifi bridge along with everything else that we have no clue about. I have a feeling that there will be a few BIG surprises in 2.1

It may be like 9900's & their different OS's on here. Few report bad news whilst the majority are happy.

You don't have to sideload to get text messages on the PlayBook. There is an app called SMS Bridge that goes on your phone and converts texts to email. It cost a couple of dollars and is a good temporary solution until the integrated app comes out.
One awkward way to do it if you have wifi is to use the "phone remote" app to remotely view and control your phone, and do it from your phone indirectly. But, may as well just pick up the phone I suppose.

LOL sorry, just got back from visiting family in the UK. Sadly, I've picked up a few things there, the worst being "innit" (translation: "isn't it")
Well, there's been some great suggestions here, but I think I'll wait to see what comes with the next update. I'm more interested in native integration than 3rd party apps, but the phone remote is a good point.

2.1 sent out as official would be great for the Playbook. It will give people something to work with until BB10 and add some enthusiasm back in these threads.
2.1 Beta Testers seem confident in the release. I really hope it addresses some of the problems, before adding new features. Snappier browser pls !!! Especially the UI. Hope apps open a bit faster. I saw some demos of the dev alpha running some pb native apps and they are fast. Tho its a processor upgrade. Bluetooth bridge is getting somewhat unreliable, hope its fixed or wifi bridge is better! Keeping fingers crossed!
2.1. Is apparently the next big thing before bb10 if nothing else is worked on. I really hope the whole experience is a bit more polished. Release some of the new cascades native apps already, God knows we have waited long enough. I say if im gonna wait another 6 months... Make it be a comfortable wait. The fluidity of the OS is none existent in some of the apps.. Namely BBM, Browser, App world.
TAT is having all the fun by themselves... The media app and The note taking app must be ready for the spotlight!
Since the OP is on Rogers, you can sign up for "onenumber" (www.rogersonenumber.com) and you can send and receive all the texts you want from your Playbook.
I've been using it in the U.S., as it avoids paying trans-border text message rates.
One number also works on your computer, and you can actually make free calls to/from your computer. I'm hoping eventually Rogers will come up with an app that gives the same functionality to our playbooks.
Anyway, this is an excellent, and free way to enable texting, albeit only for Rogers subscribers.

I didn't know RogersOneNumber would do that! Good idea, thanks~!
