How can I get my playbook tablet to start up quickly when turning on the power without having to wait for the swirling colors first. And how can I get my 5 organizational tabs (All, Favorites, Media, Games, Blackberry Bridge) to appear? Can the tabs be changed to something else?

    You can't.

Unless you're running OS 1 on your Playbook, which I doubt, you can't.

Just put it in standby instead of turning it right off. I get amazing standby time on my pb.

My wife and I never turn our Plabooks off, which I believe is the norm for most Playbook users.
Startup from standby is fast enough.

I have OS version 2.1.0. I got my tablet from someone else and it appears that the 5 organizational tabs at the top are: Messages, Contacts, Browser, Calendar and BB world.

How long does the playbook power remain if the tablet is in standby before it needs to be recharged, if I use the tablet sparingly during the day?

They are not organizational tabs. They are simply app icons that have been placed on the dock. You can move any icons off of the dock or up from the homescreen to the dock by pressing and holding on any app icon until all icons start bulging, then simply drag any icons that you want to move up to or off of the dock. One caveat, don't move all icons off of the dock- always leave at least one icon on the dock.

You will find a lot of information under the help icon on your PB.

How long is your standby? I can't even get a week without needing to recharge. I tend to leave mine plugged in more often than not.

Easily a week with BT/WiFi off. I've found it at 0% after two weeks (oops) but didn't have an issue recharging.
