    Aaawww yeah! Fired up this little tablet for the first time since the shutdown and everything is still running. No nag about BBID.
    Getting all my emails synced up and even the good ol' calendar is syncing up fine with Outlook and iCloud!
    Not sure if this suffers from the same battery consumption issue as the BB10 devices, but I suppose not a big deal since it is mostly an offline media device with only occasional forays online.

    And yeah, this is coming from the Crackberry app on Playbook!

    Funny thing is BlackBerry World still fires up and showing new tiles/contents (or at least I don't recall seeing them before). No surprise though that download and install fails.

    Nope, have not got any sign on popups yet. Not on this nor any of my BB10 devices

    I have multiple Playbooks and I have found that the last one I used before the Shutdown does not give me the password challenge when I go online. The others do though. So if you have one device no problem. More than one tied to the same ID? Forget about using them online unless you like continually having to cancel pop ups.

    I don't think that's the issue. I recall even on my one Playbook, if I have not used it in a while it pops up asking for me to sign in.
    I expect to see this sooner or later.

    I was playing a racing game. Just before I got to the finish line, I got the sign in popup it cost me the race. I put it in airplane mode and still get BBID popup. Before the shutdown, I went to this BB Protect site and removed all my devices from my account. I didn't close the account. This site is now closed.(https://protect.blackberry.com/protect/managedevices)

    Ah, that annoying BBID pop-up.

    I use a Playbook as the output screen for a system than monitors the PV panels on our roof and it's been brilliant for that purpose. I use "Simple Browser" in full-screen, headless mode and the monitor's HTML page fills the screen. Until yesterday, I had escaped these pop-ups, then they started.

    "What if I tinker with the DNS in my router?", I thought. From the logs, I noticed that the Playbook was going to "blackberryid.blackberry.com" when I was trying to authenticate. So I edited the DNS on my router to point it to localhost (127.0.0.0). That made no difference; I still saw the network error message on the pop-up. I dismissed it, but it came back, of course.

    The next step was to look up the address for the server. Well, there appeared to be loads associated with "blackberryid.dyn.blackberry.net" - note the "dyn" - so I chose one of them and popped it into the router. Next time I tried to authenticate the Playbook, the little green wheel just kept on turning. I left it for an hour or so with it doing that, with the pop-up on top. I checked network traffic and there was no additional activity going on.

    I could still see my "PV" page behind, so I tapped it and it came to the front. Presumably, the little green wheel is still going round somewhere. Now, 21 hours later, I still have my PV monitor on the screen and no pop-up visible.

    This may not match your use of the Playbook, but it might be helpful to some. It's certainly worth a try. Let me know how you get on. There's no guarantee, of course, that the pop-up won't come back.

    Which exact domain did you associate with which exact address ? Thanks in advance

    It was the one I cited, "blackberryid.blackberry.com" and I gave it 74.82.72.149. I also assigned 68.171.242.164 to "inet.registration.blackberry.com", as I'd seen that being requested too. Looking at the router logs, it's almost certainly the first one that's used.

    Good luck.

    Thanks, I wasn't that lucky though. I already had "blackberryid.blackberry.com" pointing to 74.82.72.149, and the Sign in timed out at 1 min 45 s exactly. Adding "inet.registration.blackberry.com" didn't help unfortunately. Also tried redirecting all *.blackberry .com and *.blackberry.net subdomains but that didn't work either.

    Thanks for your DNS findings, I almost have the same use case (output screen for home automation).
    I tried your workaround it seems to work to some extent. I get the green circle spinning for about 10 minutes but it eventually still times out.

    The IPs you assigned to the host names...are they just random offline IPs or are these IPs still online?
    I have an Asus Router and used these lines in dnsmasq.conf:
    address=/blackberryid.blackberry.com/74.82.72.149
    address=/inet.registration.blackberry.com/68.171.242.164

    When I remove these entries I imediately get a network error on the BBID popup, so there's an effect.

    Hard luck, tommyv. The one that appears most often in my router logs, so the one that's coming in so quickly, is the "inet.registration.blackberry.com" one. Interestingly, I am still seeing some of these escaping to the public DNS, but many fewer than before. I don't know why that is, though and I can't think that would be of any help to you, but worth mentioning.

    Close, then. I don't know what's happened to my spinning circle, because I haven't dared close the "Simple Browser" window to try to find the BBID dialogue.

    I found these IP addresses listed for *almost* these domain names; they had ".dyn" embedded within them. They don't respond to pings, but that's nothing unusual, so not conclusive evidence that they're actually off line. Maybe someone could do a DNS lookup for these domains from a system that's not behind DNS server with these modified addresses.

    ** HOLD THE FRONT PAGE **

    When I tried this yesterday, neither responded to ping. I've just tried it, before I commit this reply, and "inet.registration.blackberry.com" on the address above *does* respond to ping. The other one, "blackberryid.blackberry.com" still doesn't. Don't ask me why. Even with more than 50 years "in the trade", I still find myself baffled at times.

    Are you "looking" for the BBID screen or does if barge its way on to the front? As I said to tommyv, I'm too scared to go looking for it. It may be that my full-screen, headless browser is hiding a further invitation to log in. It certainly didn't before I started playing with the DSN, so my changes have certainly changed its behaviour. As I said, 50 years+ and still confused.

    I might have solved it. First checked 74.82.72.149, it was offline, then checked 68.171.242.164 which was online, then explored a bit DNS record on domain.glass website, and found two other potential entries. Finally, edited dnsmasq.conf on my router as follows:

    address=/blackberryid.blackberry.com/74.82.72.149
    address=/inet.registration.blackberry.com/74.82.72.149
    address=/inet.registration.dyn.blackberry.net/74.82.72.149
    address=/blackberryid.dyn.blackberry.net/74.82.72.149

    So far I have the green wheel still spinning on Sign In page, and no pop ups on fullscreen Origami browser. Hopefully that was it !

    EDIT: Still spinning... What I did was cancel the out-of-nowhere "Sign in" pop-up, went to settings, BBID, and signed in there, so I could swipe up the settings screen and use any app normally.

    EDIT 2: Out of curiosity, I restarted the playbook and couldn't replicate the above anymore....

    EDIT 3: Deleted all access points, forced shutdown (10 sec pwr button), turned on, connected WIFI, signed in and the wheel started spinning, checked this morning and still spinning.

    Yeah, unfortunately it's the same for me. The spinning wheel times out within about 10 minutes and the popup returns.
    I guess "never change a running system" quite fits here

    I don't know what I've done differently, but mine is still working perfectly. I will add that my use case involves never changing away from the always-on browser; maybe that's not giving BBID a chance to show itself.

    Anyone else anything to report?

    Following Hendrik Groove's advice - I didn't need him to tell me, of course - I'm not about to fiddle to try to find out what's really happening. I'll just count myself lucky ... for as long as it lasts.

    If/when it does let me down, I can pick up a reasonable Android tablet that will fit the clips already stuck to the wall for about GBP50, so it's not the end of the world. Should I end up in that position, I'll try to sort out what's going on and post any findings here.

    I have 2 playbooks and i forgot the password to log in to 1 of them "Not the BBID" the main password for the device. i entered it incorrectly 10 times and now the playbook is stuck trying to get the "Agreement" from the server so i can "Agree for terms of use" with no luck. anything can be done with that or its now dead?

    Also the 2nd playbook i have, i am trying to sideload apps on it with no luck, first i tried to install the chrome extension playbook app manager, but my chrome version is unable to load the unpackaged one. then i tried using the software DDPB and at first i got the JAvA error, so i followed the steps to download the latest JRE version and change opened the advanced system settings and created a path to the newly installed JRE but now i am faced with the error message "Peer not Authenticated" and couldn't find a solution for it. anyone know how to get over 2 issues?

    Do a search here on the forums. Somewhere there is a link to an "old" version of Chrome which will allow you to use the BB 10 and Playbook sideload extension. I think that is how some are still sideloading bar files.

    Don't know of a solution to reactivate a factory reset (or new) Playbook. At this point they are bricks or spare parts.

    As brookie229 suggested there are some using old versions of Chrome with the PlayBook Extension to sideload Bar Files.

    The apps that I installed before Blakberry world shut down still work. Basically I use it to watch videos. Playbook Video playback is very good with the Kaleem Soft app. My biggest issue is it no longer connects with USB cable, but I can still transfer videos files over wifi.
