Had my PlayBook for ~1.5 years and saw a new behaviour today.

    not able to reproduce

    -tap the battery icon
    -tap the "Stand By" option
-swipe down to wake the device

    expected result
    -PlayBook wakes up

    observed
-Playbook did not respond to swipe

    attempted remedies
-suspected orientation issue so I rotated the PlayBook and swiped all four possible orientations.

    successful remedy
-pressed power button for ~15 seconds until the led came on(unit booted normally)

If it happens again I will try the "screen shot key combination" and listen for the "shutter" noise.

I hope this is just another example of - Computers occasionally do what they want! Hope it won't return.

well one playbook lost the ability to alter screen brightness, hard reboot doesn't fix it, everthing else works fine tho.

Just too lazy to wipe and reload

While the info says the 3-finger move is not necessary, I'd give all of the following a try if you haven't

To fix an issue, try these in order:

Restart using the Battery Icon and press Restart

Press and hold the Power button for 10-15 seconds. Then leave it for 20-30 seconds and see if it restarts.

    To REBOOT:
Press and HOLD all three keys for about 10 - 20 seconds: PowerOn, VolUp and VolDown. Start with the PowerButton. Keep holding past the 3-choice options screen. If you hear a shutter type sound, you've taken a Screen Shot and probably missed the PowerButton.
