    Heya!
I got a second hand playbook, really like the OS but it has an issue

One of the speaker is constantly giving off a buzzing sound, but the left speaker is working fine.

Whenever the speaker should output audio, it just has this static sound.

I was able to record a demo of the noise http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7829694/playbook%20noise.mp3

It's intensified by a lot since the noies is fairly faint

I think it may not have been like this at some point during the many resets I did

I have opened the unit and tested the working speaker on the non-working speaker and the speaker does the same thing, so I can confirm that the speaker is working properly, so it's either the board somewhere or a software issue.

    Any ideas?

You can try a wipe and reload the OS, if that doesn't work you could call RIM check the serial number and see if it's still under warranty.

I tried both security wipe and the volume up down power thing, the problem persists.

Is there a way to reinstall the OS altogether?

    Try the Debrick method....

Perform a backup of your pb if you can using Desktop Manager or, at least, manually coping any unique data, photos, voice recordings, documents, etc.

    1) Turn your playbook OFF by holding down the power button
    2) Let your playbook sit for about 10 minutes as earlier suggested.
    3) After letting the PB sit (and still powered off) open up the Blackberry Desktop Software (the latest version)
    4) Once the Blackberry Desktop Software is opened, use the USB Cable and hook the PB to the PC.. THEN power on the Playbook
    5) A screen will show on your computer showing that the device cannot be found
    6) Click on Update. It will take awhile

The PB has a one year warranty to the original purchaser. It also has 90 free Tech support. I do not know how Rim deals with "quasi-tech support v. warranty"
