I think there are lots of things wrong on my 2.1 update.

-Any Android app, such as Dolphin, battery check, won't even launch. Whenever I touch the icon, nothing happens.

-The mail and calendar app does not fit in the portrait mode

These are the issues I am facing and which I haven't found how to solve. I tried the security wipe few times, the hard reset, but nothing seems to work. The OS is definitely 2.1 because. I see the encryption option in the setting menu.

Anyone know how I can fix this?

You tried the security wipe a few times and this does not work? That's impossible. I cannot even begin to solve your problem if that's what you just said.

First of all, can you enlighten us on how you managed to get the OS 2.1? I'm assuming you are a dev as this was a dev beta release.

Anyone can get the beta though it was specifically for development. Someone just didn't read the fine print.

    1. It's Beta.. So put up.. If you can't then you shouldn't have a Beta installed in the first place.
    2. This issue seems like it can be sorted with a simple hard reboot
    3. If a security wipe (actually many security wipes) din't resolve this, I don't know what will.

    4. Actually.. OP, you can connect your PlayBook to the Desktop Manager and choose the 'Repair' option if that comes up..

I'm on OS2.1 and not facing this issue..

    Hi everybody,

the GPS functionality (e.g. in Bing Maps) isnt working since I upgraded my Playbook 64GB to 2.1.

    A known issue?

    Thanks for any clues!

I think I've read some people complaining about Bing Maps not working fine.. But I guess it's because Bing must be working on some back-end stuff.. It happens sometimes with Google on my phone.. They do some change.. and then it doesn't work at all.. and then it will just start working with a new layout or some stuff changed..

Not sure though.. I don't use Bing Maps..

All, thanks for all the advices.

varunsain, you are totally right about using the desktop. Since I haven't used the desktop app since I updated my MacBook to mountain lion, I needed to get the latest version of BB Desktop in order to use it on the mountain lion.

The weird thing was that although my PB was 2.1, the desktop app said that I had a upgrade to the latest version, the 2.0.1.358. I proceeded with all the tedious stuff and wow, it is now back to normai! I can finally use my Android apps!

The funny thing is when I go to the settings of PB to get if there are any latest versions, although I have given RIM my serial of the PB, it won't give me the 2.1 any more. But this is not a issue for me anymore because I would rather keep it on a stable version.

Hiking Ed, I had the same issue with my 2.1. I solved it by the security wipe, but this lead me to the Non-Launching Android apps mode :-( But I hope this link may help

I read somewhere that someone was facing a problem with Flash on the Beta release.. You can try reloading the software or fall back to the latest OS release.

I will say it again - if you have problems with the beta (not unexpected with a beta), it should be reported back to rim on their official forum. They need to know what problems or quirks people have with it.

If you perform a security wipe, when 2.1 beta gets reloaded, the wrong version of android is loaded. There have been a number of posts about this and I ran into the same problem. A sure-fire way to fix this is to downgrade the OS through desktop manager, then reinstall OS 2.1.

Hopefully this is a better answer than "deal with it, you should have known better". Sorry for the dig, I'm not a big fan of the trite answers that sometimes occur on forums.

The only way to prevent issues is simply not to load the beta os systems. I know that doesn't help a lot but in order to prepare anyone for beta please join BlackBerry Beta Zone. The specialist there can help and offer advise on BlackBerry Beta systems.

While everyone is here I would like to ask if anyone knows if the 4G PlayBook is running the new OS or what is currently available to use WiFi people.
