Our Playbook has had a slow internet connection since day 1 (about 10 months ago) and we frequently have to reload web pages and video streaming is usually quite stuttered. I put the Playbook beside my notebook and ran a speedtest on each and this was the results:

    Notebook: Ping 34ms , Download 45.88Mbps, Upload 2.59Mbps

Playbook: Ping 606ms, Download 3.68Mbps, Upload 1.2Mbps (we've seen the ping as high as 900+ sometimes)

Both of these are running on the same wifi, same router, etc. so we're not sure if that's just the way the Playbook is or if there may be something wrong. We're not very technical so a layman's answer would be appreciated

    Thank you.

Try to give your playbook an own ip. Try not to use DHCP on playbook. This should help you.

Yes, when I click on Software Updates it says it's all up to date.

I've been scrouring this forum and this is what we've found and have done so far with no success - change the router to G only, hard reset, reset modem numerous times, made sure WMM was enabled, changed from WPA to WPA2, changed it to 2.4Ghz, tried both standard 20 channel width and 40 wide channel. Is there anything we missed trying? We have 2 laptops and 5 smartphones and an Xbox that all run very fast and smooth...it's just the Playbook we have trouble with.

hi. as a note i feel your pain. i have always felt that my PlayBook has been very slow also. i used to work on the road so at low prices i got my "live in" girlfriend a PlayBook for video chat between the hotel wifi speed and my house speed we have yet to have a successful clear chat. i have even went as far as wiping my PB what a pain that was. at any givin time there could be 5 to 10 devices hooked up to my wifi. i have a belkin playN600. its a low budget router and i wondered if it could be the culprit? was thinking of upgrading it to a linksys N750 DB to see if that helps? just dont want to waste the money if it wont help. so i will be following this post
    thx keith

The fastest I have got with PlayBook is about 2.5Mbytes/sec, or about 20mbps.

Average downstream is 2.0Mbytes/sec or 16mbps.

This is obtained between 34dB to 42dB in signal strength.

    What are your numbers?

I solved signal strength issues with a second router plugged to the main router via power-over-ethernet.

Have you changed the channel from 'auto' or the default (usually 1 or 11)? What is the model of the WiFi router or access point? Is your BlackBerry PlayBook only slow on your WiFi network?

I found enabling encryption of TKIP + AES sped things up. Using speedtest.net 20-30Mb/s is typical. This is using Shaw cable's Cisco DPC3825 gateway.

20-30 mbps is probably what you get from your ISP.

I think the point of discussion here is wifi throughput within your local area network.

The simplest test is to copy a file using file sharing between your PlayBook and your desktop or laptop computer.

Seems to me we're discussing speedtest results, i.e. internet ping + download and upload speeds. On a 50Mb/s service, my playbook is equivalent to the OP's laptop on a really good day testing from a real good source, whereas his PB's speed quite frankly sucks. Just look at his ping.. Yeesh!
Your LAN speeds (wifi copy between computer and playbook) are the same as mine.

UK here with a 24Mbps connection, live approximately 2 miles from exchange. Have technicolor modem, connected to PC via ethernet.
    PlayBook speeds , next to modem, Ping 37ms D/L 13.98 Mbs U/l 1.04 Mbs 10 mtrs away from modem Ping 121ms D/L 12.86 Mbs U/L 0.92 Mbs

    PC Ping 34 ms D/L 16.54 U/l 1.16 Mbs

    Here are my numbers :

    Ping: 16ns
    Download : 15.84 mbps
    Upload : 4.78 mbps
Wireless signal strength : -39dBm, which is about 2m from router.

I think op issue is more related to signal strength.

Sorry for the delay in responding! Our router channel is set to "3" and not "auto". Our router is a Cisco DPC3825. The only other wifi networks we've tried it on have been in hotels and the PB was pretty much useless and we couldn't get much of a connection at all.

I just checked and our router says "Encryption: TKIP + AES"

I wasn't sure if I mentioned but those speedtest results, in my first post, are with the PB within 1m of the router.

If it can help, this only proves that the playbook is capable of at least 20mbps, I too agree that OP must have a signal strength issue, almost feels like your playbook is attached to your neighboors Wireless and not yours

    Ping: 77ms
    Download : 19.8 mbps
    Upload : 10.2 mbps
    Wireless signal strength : -44dBm

Definately attached to ours We have 2 laptops, 4 smartphones and 1 xbox that all run with very quick wifi...it's just the playbook we have trouble with. We always thought that was the way this tablet was.

I'm not sure what these numbers mean but I just checked and our Signal level is -56 dBm and our connection data rate is 65 Mbps. Hopefully someone knows what those numbers mean LOL.

No, I've been using the speedtest from my internet provider. I downloaded the app you mentioned and the results are as follows:

    Latency 455ms
    Download average 11993 kbits/s
    Upload average 1879 kbits/s

Yes, that is the address showing on the router. My laptop says IPv4 192.168.0.1 (not sure if this is the number you're looking for)

Yup, that's the one, it confirms that both your laptop and playbook use the same router and are on the same subnet.

Well I'm stumped, can't figure out what could be your problem, all I can give you is my config for comparison, have you tried deleting the wifi profile on the playbook and recreate?
