- Okay, a couple of questions.
First: I an with At&t, is it worth purchasing the PlayBook even though they have not enabled the Bridge? I know that there is a work around but does that also work for the browser as well or just email, bbm, contacts, etc?
Second: Do I purchase one or two? My wife also would like one. Are these things easy to share between accounts or is it just easier to get two?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com05-29-11 09:46 AMLike 0 - I have AT&T and a Bold 9700. I did the OTA download of the Bridge software and it works great. The Bridge browser is a bit sluggish so I tend to use other browsers on WiFi. But for me the Bridge was the tipping point in pulling the trigger. I am very happy with the PB and 95% pleased with the Bridge.
I use my PB for business and have found it to be a great tool.05-29-11 09:49 AMLike 0 - Multiple devices can be added to the bridge but you better get 2 units because once you have one, you'll never put it down. Having full access to the web makes the PB user experience much different than the "first generation" device that currently dominates the market. My lap top now stays closed for days on end.05-29-11 10:07 AMLike 0
- The way the PB associates with BB phones, the data is only available when THAT phone is bridged. Break the bridge and use another phone and then ONLY that phone's data is on the bridge - that's part of the security. YOUR calendar, contacts, email "evaporate" when you disconnect the bridge and then HER stuff is available when she connects the bridge. Obviously, you can also store videos, docs, pdfs, jpgs locally on the pb and those are available to the next user.
Since there are still acknowledged shortcomings on the pb, I'd suggest starting with one and seeing how each of you like it. You can always buy another one tomorrow or the next day - unless you can get a deal on two-at-once!05-29-11 10:41 AMLike 0 - My girlfriend and I both purchased a PB (16gb) each. She used hers for school the last 2 weeks and has touched it once since then. I use mine all the time and always have it bridged to my 9800 through ATT. The bridge browser is slower, but if you are willing to wait for the pages to fully load before you go clicking and scrolling it does work very well.
As stated above I would purchase one first and see how you two like it, if one is enough why spend the extra $$ on a second. But if you find sharing it just isn't an option you can always go out and purchase a second one.05-29-11 01:10 PMLike 0 - It's kinda cool to have both browsers running at the same time.
There were some severe storms rolling through my area so I had the UI in "show case" mode so I could "page slide" between the article I was reading and the constantly updating weather radar animation. Quite the friggin rain storms we had too.05-29-11 04:35 PMLike 0 - So...ended up with two of them. I have been playing with mine for about four hours and I love it. Got the bridge working without a problem and so far am very happy. Thank you for all the feedback, it helped make this decision very easy.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com05-29-11 06:30 PMLike 0 - I was about to say if you buy them through future shop (and Im assuming Best Buy as well) you have 14 days to make your decision. If you don't like it, you can return it.
I wanted to test out the remote access app but because the device could not be setup in the store, I needed to bring it home with me :P05-29-11 07:39 PMLike 0 - @latz333 just when i was going to tell you to buy 8 you bought yours... playbook is great.. my wife owns an ipad and just today she couldn't view a pdf like the playbook does that's when she gotally realised that playbook is for real....
weel done buying yours.. congrats and enjoy05-29-11 08:19 PMLike 0 - I love this thing. My wife and I are sitting in the family room playing around on our new PlayBooks. I still have a lot to figure out but my wife is sold. She figured out that she could walk around the office with it bridged to her 9700 and leave her laptop at her desk. It is so easy to buy things ,like this when the wife is on board.
Now she wants a flip case like she has for her Kindle. Any ideas?05-29-11 08:54 PMLike 0 - In short, No.
I bought a PB, and I am so happy to have it due to its small size. However, I fear this will be yet another case of BB trying to catch up with Apple. I am tired of watching my wife with her iPhone and iPad effortlessly perform tasks that BB products struggle to handle.
The web browsing capabilities of Apple products consistently outshine BB products. Even my PB with its Flash enabled browser keeps hanging after loading 75% of a page. The on screen zoom function seems to work erratically. The keyboard will suddenly vanish while I am entering text in an online form, etc, etc, etc.
My wife simply turns on her iPad and the internet works. It is fast, smooth and quite enviable. At best, future PB upgrades might make the PB experience "almost as good" as an iPad.
BB has always performed business tasks such as email and messaging much better than Apple. But the PB is not even able to do that properly, even with a functional Bridge. I hope that with some future upgrade, we may have a useable tablet. But I bet I will still watch with envy as my wife's iPad needs less *&%^ing around to simply do what it is supposed to do.
Everytime I choose a BB product, I end up wishing I chose the Apple equivalent at that time. I guess I am a slow learner, or maybe naively optimistic. However, I have been playing this game for years now. I will be shocked if future updates exceed my expectations, but a glimmer of hope persists and I suppose that is why I have kept the faith for so long. But if RIM doesn't fix this thing properly, I vow it will be my last BB product! Ah *&^! I have said that before so many times....05-30-11 06:30 PMLike 0 - 05-30-11 07:20 PMLike 0

Also, I have the 9800 and my wife has the 9700 both on At&t and the bridge is working just fine.05-30-11 08:18 PMLike 0 - Sharing the playbook only works well if you are good at sharing. Here is a test, does your wife take all the blankets while you are sleeping and you wake up freezing? If you answered yes, then you will need to buy two playbooks and another blanket for your bed.
Once you have a playbook, you will never put it down.05-30-11 09:22 PMLike 0 - I went to best buy and used this thing for a half hour today. The fact that Pandora doesnt keep running and there is no chat client (gchat), is preventing me from doing this. I love the way it looks, love the way it feels, love the way it moves on the screen, but without those 2 apps, I have no idea what im gonna do with it For those who own one, help!05-31-11 06:59 PMLike 0

That said if you put the PB in showcase mode instead of default pandora will keep running if you open new apps. It just won't keep running if you open a new browser tab.05-31-11 07:13 PMLike 0 -
- I second this statement by shootsscores. I seldom boot up my laptop nowdays. Pretty happy with my purchase but I'm getting a little anxious about the upgrades they promised.
All in all I would sign off on you getting one...if that matters.06-01-11 12:58 AMLike 0
