Is there a shortcut to lowering sound on the Playbook?
Easier than top right corner swipe, select gear-setttings, scroll to select Sound, adjust sound, close - ?
How long have you had your PB? The volume controls are on the top of the PB, next to the power button. The left rocker lowers volume, the right rocker raises volume, and pressing the center of the rocker mutes the PB.

A "mute" motion would be great.
I currently am working on an 'exit app' -> it show/manages your wifi (On/Off), Bluetooth (On/Off), Screen brightness , Flight mode (On/Off), Sound and more !
It's basically a Checklist-app that you can run before you stop using your PB for a few hrs or more.

The methods posted by pacoman are the shortest I know OP.

I'm wondering if the OP is encountering the the same problem I was with the first case I purchased, the material around the volume rocker was so stiff I had to put the PlayBook against my stomach and push like I was self administering the heimlich maneuver to change the volume, the above method was actually the easiest work around, the case that came with the BB keyboard has since resolved this, thank god.
The Center play button at the top mutes the sound in apps with sound, video player or games, lower and increase sounds with left and right buttons as mentioned. I've tried a few cases, the best so far for me is the vajacase, keeps the bezel completely open, buttons nicely exposed too.
Thanks. I have to admit to not liking the buttons on mine so much that I forgot about them over the last 8 months. Especially when they are under the universal case and hard to control quickly.
And yes, I am also guilty of trying to hold them down instead of pulsing them, which is part of the problem for me.
So big thanks to kretch, and also to Olukunlea, Mr_Bunny and pacoman03. And I'll buy the first good app that avoids the buttons.
Thanks to all for being civil and not pulling out flame throwers!
I know what you mean, mine are hard to manipulate when I was using the convertible case. But I have no problems with the volume control when in the Journal case and my OtterBox.
