Tried searching but couldn't find an answer. Is there a way to make a shortcut (like you can with webpage bookmarks) to a document? Or do you always have to open Docstogo and then the document from within there?

I don't believe any such shortcuts exist. Some of the new file manager apps will allow you to point at a file and it will launch the appropriate app.
