What I think the OP is trying to say is that they hope that RIM doesn't announce it until it is done and will be ready to ship a week later. Not like the current PlayBook, which was shown months before it was actually available.
its not rumor to me, 10inch playbook is true. I heard it from my close friends working for RIM. The project is in NPI stage, if you're familiar in manufacturing, you'll know what I mean.

You'll have to pardon our skepticism. "Close friends working for RIM" is a little vague.
It IS an interesting rumor though... Your friends advise you of any new hardware features?

If the Waterloo factory is the same as it was last I was there, it means there would be a prototype that cannot leave an enclosed room that has no cameras, no phones, nada in it. Its quite an interesting room to be in lol.
Based on the screen resolution calculations, the suggested size of the larger PlayBook would be 8.8-8.9 inches. That's of course assuming the larger PlayBook has the same pixel density as the original PlayBook.
I felt I should elaborate on my 8.8-8.9 inch comment. Within OS 2.0 LTE icons were found, and 1280 x 768 images were found, if u extrapulate that out to a screen with the same pixel density it works out to suggest that the screen would be about 8.9 inches diagonally rather than the current 7 inches.
As far as I can tell, NPI encompasses a massive amount of time. Starting from concept design, then physical design, then prototype manufacture and pre-production. So, based on your in-the-know lingo it sounds like the new PlayBook form factor could be released in the next few months or the next year or so. Do you have any other details as to how far along it is?

Doesn't automatically mean they'd maintain the same pixel density, however...
Now to talk about the second part of the title... 7.8 inch iPad? I think that's just the wrong size, because the 7 inch PlayBook barely fits into most of my pockets, so 7.8 inches would either be so widescreen it's unusable or too big to be portable, and I'd say if it isn't portable anyway bigger screens are better.
But anyway, I have no trouble believing that a larger PlayBook will come out eventually. There's a lot of demand for the larger size for some reason, so once RIM establishes their position in the tablet market (sometime in the next 5 years...) they'll likely go into the closely related non-portable tablet market.
LOL.
In tradition of CB, the OP should have put a "?" after the thread caption.
Should we be ready for thunder and lightning when RIM makes an announcement?
RIM just made a half BILLION dollar charge against the current PB and other matters. I think not that they are planning to start a new model PB. They can't even keep a schedule to release the QNX BB10 phones how can they be expected to release the PB-10"? As far as an iPad in smaller size, Apple FIRMLY said they will NOT make one smaller.
BUT it's hard not to imagine if this is true or not
My vote is that RIM should name it the "Workbook"
I just picked up my 9900 yesterdAy so it is safe to sAy haven't chosen to abandon hope and my faith in RIM. It is wearing thin though. I agree that the "workbook"...plays ;-)
Interesting posts. I might add this thought, if the trolls and haters thus allow me: RIM does many things at once, they always have - so it is completely logical that they would release a 10" pb as well as new qnx phones in 2012, hit the year with a big qnx splash - makes sense to me.
