OK Crackberrians What is your point of veiw?

I say no and wait for the new releases in February as it does not make much sense to me to buy a PB and use it for Android over to you!

Agreed, as much of a tech nut I am.....I'm still waiting for the full pull here. Too close for me to bother rooting.

Rooting the PlayBook is not useful to the masses right now nor will it be when OS2 comes out... eventually it will become useful but as of now rooting is unnecessary.

While I have not done it, I have reserved the option by not upgrading the OS.

But Rooting does more than provide access to the Android apps. It gives people the ability to change their icons, run hulu in the browser and other stuff. Most of us don't need it but ....

Needs to be a third option, "Who the cares about rooting". The way its worded its like "yes I want to root, but am holding off until OS2 is launched".

Yeah... the poll options do not relate well to the question "To Root?". There are work arounds for changing icons, hulu, and some of the other things... Kerm's Desktop Browser gives access to hulu, and I gave an overview of changing icons without rooting in another thread.

DingleBerry provides a wonderful way to gain Root access but it is unnecessary in my opinion

The poll is to ask, should we root now or wait until 2.0 is released and then decide.

I'm in the third camp -- I will still have no desire to root even when 2.0 is released. I'd rather explore the workarounds and I can't imagine anything so pressing or lacking from 2.0 (or even 1.0) that I would feel the need to root.

Now if I had lots of free time and was looking for a Fun Tech Thing to Do, I might root. But I have a long list of Fun Tech Things to Do, and rooting my PB is way down the list.

While I am not against rooting I love the pb OS and UI so much I don't want to. If I wanted android OS on my tab I would've bought an android tab. I much prefer pb as is. With bug fixes (android is in need of those also) and features added in updates I will never root unless my pb becomes a brick without doing so, I don't see that happening.

I tried the OS 2.0 beta and restored my PB to 1.08. It was just too much work trying to get anything to work. With OS 2.0 coming in a month I will just wait. If the wait was longer I wouldn't have purchased the Playbook in the first place.

I guess we'll see if it's "necessary" or desired after the official release...
I'm thinking there will be those who do, regardless (maybe just to do it).

It seems like all this chat about rooting is a waste of time The top 10 Apps are mostly available if you know how.

I'm waiting till 2.0 comes out and then even shortly after, I'll wait if USB OTG isn't part of 2.0, to see if it's added. But if they don't get around to adding OTG, I'm rooting my PB for sure! Probably wait till late spring for USB OTG.
