If 2.0 is really just around the corner, why is RIM still slashing prices?

$149 for a 32GB at Telus, that is starting to sound like the end.
Think HP had the same price when they pulled out of the tablet game?

Surely it would have been better to wait a couple weeks for 2.0 to hit,
and then sell at a higher price with the new demand ...

RIM is slashing prices because 2.0 is around the corner lol.

Also the 3G/LTE versions should be in a couple months as well.

So many things they do with the Playbook just leave you shaking your head.

    At the end of November,
the $199,$299, $399 pricing was a massive success.
They were selling out instantly everywhere, big big demand.

What does RIM do... end the sale.

In the weeks since they have had to reduce prices even more.

Now this strange timing, $149 for a 32GB tablet,
when $199 / 32 I'm sure once 2.0 hit would have sold them all out anyhow?

Could 3G/LTE version be released along side 2.0 be the reason?

I wonder what the numbers were though. Not arguing with your point; I just wonder if it was as huge of a success as we think it was (for RIM, that is).

It wont be too much later. Also, they are trying to drive business adoption since PBAS launches with 2.0.

I would think it's because they want more people with Blackberry tablets so the developers take note and start pumping out more apps before the launch of their next tablet.

Makes good sense, its just the timing / 32GB pricing of this sale that is questionable.

Exactly, it has nothing to do with RIM, and everything to do with whatever Telus is thinking/planning...maybe Telus knows something about the purported 3G/4G/LTE PB the rest of us only speculate o, and just want to clear wi-fi only PB's to make room for the new model; who knows and who cares? Same with the latest Apple iPhone 4S...Apple didn't have a sale on Christmas day, but the local Best Buy had a Christmas day only sale of the iPhone 4S for $99.00 for the 16 GB phone with upgrade/new 2 year contract.

It's not the "end" for RIM or that they're dropping tablets.

Again, not a RIM sale, but a Black's sale, who btw are out of stock. If RIM was having a sale, which they are now, but not at those prices you mention, they would let the rest of us know about it on their web site. Retailers, for whatever reasons, are free to sell anything they have at any price they deem, providing there are no manufacturer restrictions. RIM does not place restrictions on what a retailer can charge for their devices like Apple does.

    Isn't Blacks owned by Telus?

It makes sense that a cellular company wants to clear our wifi only units so they can sell PlayBooks with the cellular radios in them, along with a cellular contract.

Just got a 32gb at a local Telus store. Last and only one they had in stock. They would not or could not order more. For that price I wanted two. I took my receipt over to Walmart and they price matched and sold me a 32gb at the $149.

The old Radio Shack stores in Canada, later renamed to The Source, were bought by Bell at about the same time. The cellular companies probably found it was cheaper to buy a retailer with retail electronics distribution outlets/stores than to pay the costs of opening more phone stores.

Which reminds me, one of my nieces in Argentina tells me that Blackberry has their very own boutique store in Buenos Aires, very much like the Apple stores we have here, and I so wish RIM would support that idea.
