Semi-conductor maker NXP is suing BlackBerry phone maker RIM for infringing six of its patents, the Dutch company said on Tuesday.
NXP, a division of NXP Semiconductors, alleges some versions of the BlackBerry phone and Playbook tablet infringe patents it filed between 1997 and 2008. The patents relate to design, data transmission and other features, NXP said.
The lawsuit was filed on Monday in Orlando, Florida.
NXP was spun off by Philips in 2006.
