The official retail price of BlackBerry PlayBook has not changed. However, as mentioned on the Q2 earnings call on Sept. 15th, we have a number promotional plans in place for the fall with our retail partners that are intended to drive sell-through and increased adoption of the BlackBerry PlayBook. We are already starting to see some of these promotions being implemented in the form of instant rebates and gift cards within the consumer channel, and expect these promotions to continue into the holiday season. The BlackBerry PlayBook has established itself as a high-performance tablet, and we are confident that these activities, along with the upcoming software upgrade, BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0, will help to generate an increase in demand and sell through of the BlackBerry PlayBook over the upcoming months.

In other words ... if you can have it cheap now : rush & buy ...

LOL at $299. They will sell maybe a dozen at that price. Kindle Fire is $199 and same form factor + a supported platform.

My iphone 4 and original ipod touch have the same form factor as well..One can do 1000x the amount of the other. What's your point? It looks the same so it should be the same price lol?

Actually, why not try to give some intelligent feedback as to why you think the Kindle Fire is so great, and the research you have done. And also explain your strategy of why you think RIM will only "sell maybe a dozen at that price".

I'm guessing it's a sale with no mail in rebates to worry about.
I just saw it in my email and was passing it along.

If it had been $199 or less I would have bought one and then posted about it

The price cuts seem to be a Canada/USA thing only.

In the UK, as in France, the main retail prices haven't changed at all and are between 335 and 390 for a 16Gb PB.

That's around the US$560 mark for the 16Gb Playbook.

Nothing has changed in Australia either. Talked to a BB rep yesterday and he saw the prices in North America too and was amazed. He doesn't think that will happen here. Its also still only being sold in one store.

I'd like to have seen some price drops in the UK, at the moment I'm looking for a tablet and would really like a Playbook but the seemingly imminent price drops/incentives is just putting me off.

I bought my PB at a Chicago area Staples yesterday (Tuesday 9/27/11) for $349 + tax out the door with $100 prepaid Visa card rebate and $50 credit coming to my new Staples credit card account for a final cost of $199 + tax. Manager said the price next week would be $299 + tax out the door without the rebate.
