Well... not entirely, no. I miss PB's fantastic interface and multi-tasking. I miss its more compact size, but as most of the department is using company-issued iPads, the Xperia doesn't stand out as unusual. It does look nice sitting on the corner of my desk. I miss the Bridge, but let's face it - that went away a long time ago and is never coming back.
Sony, on the other hand, has picked up on that concept and allows its tablets to synch to its matching phones. Nice one.
That's about it. I don't miss the dead app market -- Sony gives me access to Google Play, Sony Select and Amazon just to get things started. Natively, not as bookmark link. I also don't miss the PlayBook's failure to communicate with WiFi. Like every other product I've had in this building, Xperia has zero problems talking to the office network.
I also don't miss the lagging browser or the poor battery performance. Off-charger, now, for 3 1/2 hours and still registering at 100%. That's a very welcome change.
Do I have some regrets? Yeah. I do. The PlayBook had such great promise that ultimately went unfulfilled. While Sony seems to have put together a fine interface, I'm back to a 'Home' button. There are other options that present the same general philosophy of how the PB navigated, but it just doesn't have the same brilliance.
I still have my Z10, but I fear that sometime after September 4th, I'll eventually be replacing it with either an Xperia Z Ultra (if I can bring myself to own a 'phablet'), or the rumored Z1. Of course, there's a good chance that they'll be announcing a new tablet that will render my recently purchase obsolete, but that's the game we all play in the end.
Sad. I loved BlackBerry and all the innovations it brought to market. But I'm also a massive Sony fan, so I feel this is more a transition than an abandonment. And who knows; perhaps BlackBerry will still make a comeback down the road with a strong partnership. I can always go back at that point. Especially if that partner happens to be Sony themselves...
Through it all? At least I can say this; I still don't own a damn Samsung and I still don't own a damn Apple.
