I can see RIM clearing the PB to reduce inventory,
but with stores also clearing the accessories
it sure seems like they dont plan on selling PBs ever again?
RIM knows if they raise the price they stop selling again.
So its either, stop making them, or leave the price at $199, or bring out a new model that may attract buyers to pay more.
The tablet market is a mess right now for manufacturers, except one.
One does start to wonder if there is something to the rumors that various stores say the pb is discontinued. With the veracity that's come from rim in the past, I can see them merely dumping them where purchasers are led to believe there is an OS2 (yes, there is a Santa Claus). At least HP was honest when they discontinued and then the firesale occurred.
With the rumor flying rim needs to make one of its infrequent public statements that they are still backing the pb and it is not discontinued.
well you know the PB will not be discontinued, RIM is putting all their consumer eggs in the BBX basket. So since the software will definitely continue to be supported, it's extremely highly likely they will continue to make a tablet with this running on it.
To the OP, the price will not drop below this level, they are reducing inventory, which i think is good as it puts more PBs in peoples hands. The hardware itself is worth more than that, it's a fantastic price!
What RIM needs to make sure is that they give consumers what they want in what's missing. The first half of the BB problem is getting the product in hands of people(=solved), now they have to impress them and get them to want a BB. Here's hoping they can!
