Is there a program like Speedtest that runs on the local network to test LAN speeds?

File transfers between my PC and Playbook over Wi-fi sharing max out at 1 MB/s or 8 Mb/s over 802.11g and 802.11n. It should be much faster than that and all my other phones and computers are OK, just the Playbook that's slow.

I've tried enabling or disabling WPA/WPA2, WMM, QOS, 20 Mhz and 40 Mhz channel width, manually selecting channels but nothing works.

That just pings the Playbook, I'm trying to benchmark PC-Playbook connections over Wi-fi for the local network only.

I tried running Speedtest.net on the Playbook browser and on the PC, they both show the same figures so it's not a problem with the Playbook's Wi-fi. There seems to be something in the PB's file sharing code that really slows things down to just 1 MB/s when it should be 10x or 20x faster.

if the playbook & pc are running the same speed i'd start there,,, the only program i found in a search wanted me to register even tho it's free,,, i don't do registration freebies,,, do you have you playbook mapped as a drive??? it's easy to do,,, here's how >>> http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...-wi-fi-661022/ ,,, if you drag & drop a file, say a picture or something not too big for time sake, you should see the rate of transfer in the dialog box,,, also double check all pb settings,,, do you have any droid sideloads??? i'm willing to bet you do,,, droid ports & sideloads are notorious for causing problems...

Mapped over SMB, the average transfer rate is 800 KB/s to 1 MB/s. That's incredibly slow.

I saw this happening when I first got the Playbook and set it up. No extra apps loaded at all. I saw the same slow transfers with encryption enabled and without. Heck, even USB transfers are slower than direct USB MTP/MSC connections because they go through a stupid network-over-USB driver.

Can anyone post the speeds they're getting for Wi-fi and USB file transfers?

wow,,, that pc speed is insane,,, you have the best pc speed so far,,, where is that??? what kind of connection do you have???
p.s. gotta respect hardcore storm owners,,, i kinda liked 'em,,, dunno why...
PC is on a dedicated fiber optic line, T1 or T3, cant remember. I am in North Dakota.
Even with all of its quirks I still like my Storm1, wouldn't mind picking up a Storm2, wife and I have thought about going to the Z10, but we don't want another contract and don't want to give up our unlimited data package. Right now buying them outright is out of the question.
