    Wondering if it's possible to use something like putty to connect to the pb and reload it with a flavor of Linux or something. Has BlackBerry locked it down to the point this isn't possible or would this be an option. I only think this would be a great option since the Raspberry pi is less of a system but runs variations of the OS. Might be a great way of keeping our pb useful for some time to come.

    You definitely cannot change the root OS -the thing it boots from. The closest I can imagine is running another OS inside an emulator, as has been done for windows (search the DOSBOX app : up to WIN95), but in such a case remember (a) things will be painfully slow and (b) the BB OS still won't allow you access to peripherals (plugging an USB key, network)
