Wow!

Just downloaded OS 2.1 which has portrait mode for all the PIM apps (Email, Calendar and Contacts). I've been waiting for this.

The keyboard on this thing rocks! With the two handed thumb typing and the predictive text, you can pound out emails at blazing speeds.

If this is any prelude to BB OS 10's keyboard, then let's rock on.

This ONE feature makes me love the PB even more!

Anybody else feel the same way?

in 2.1 apps like mail, calendar and contacts work now also in portrait. I can thumb type in this modus so writing mails, etc. goes a lot quicker now

Don't know if you noticed, but hitting the caps lock the backspace gives you a forward delete now just like on the bb phones.

Odd, portrait keyboard seems the same here as it was before and in other apps. Definitely not forward delete with caplock. Portrait mail is still good though.

Thanks H2O! Thought I knew all the BB keyboard shortcuts - all these years never knew that one!!!!! Immediately grabbed my phone and tried it!

Yes, I was just trying to say that the new portrait mode in the native PIM apps looks no different to me than portrait keyboard in other apps such as the browser. No change in portrait keyboard I can see.

I didn't have bridge (never had a blackberry device before the PB), and the portrait keyboard in other apps didn't have the predictive text.

I can't wait until the intersperse the predictive text among the keyboard like they demonstrated at the Jam conference. This would be even a greater benefit on the PB, since you wouldn't have to reach as far.

2.1 OS is for developers only you can download and install at your own risk. Usually you lose functionality on something, I would just wait for the official all user upgrade which should be here soon.

I have to agree with the OP. It's much easier and faster to thumb type in portrait mode. Very well done.
