Both my PBs say they are always connected with 802.11G / 11mbps, but both are able to d/l at just under 34mbps. Connected to an Actiontec MI424WR Rev I (B/G/N) router on 35/35 FiOS connection.

PB Wifi Status says i'm connected with 802.11G / 11mbps using my Belkin wireless N router. Hooking up a Linksys E4200 next week and will report back.

Solution for wireless G found by another Crackberry user in a different thread: ensure basic connection rate value is set to All on your router configuration.

Wireless N is still stuck at 11 Mbps using same method, however.
Actually the solution I found in another thread was to lock wireless G only (I had A, B, &G) on the router. Now this is a Linksys WRT54GS Rev 5. Here are my results...

    Pretty happy with this!

Constant browser freeze on page loads here even with 2-3 bars. Turning PB wifi off then on helps reconnect a bit but this has to be fixed in a browser/wifi patch.

What were you seeing from Speedtest while it was set to Wireless N/11Mbps?

Im starting to think this is mainly a Linksys issue (I should say, an issue between the PB and certain Linksys routers, not blaming Linksys.). I notice a lot of people in that other thread in the Tablet OS thread had Linksys routers too.

not a links sys router issue. My dlink 655 dosen`t work well as well. Are they or can they fix this or will they atleast release a list of routers thier playbook WILL work with????????
It may have to go back for refund after getting such a good deal at 199.I`m very frustrated.

I have a dir 655 also and I love it. My settings read 11mbps like most everyone else but I average mid 20's at speedtest.net. My playbook watches videos and opens pages as well or better than any PC I've used. And I have 5 on the home network. I am well pleased as well that I don't have to plug this device in to PC for transfers either.

This is my second playbook. I took it back because of screen blemishes but also had wifi trouble and Rim customer support was willing to RMA it. Got a replacement from the store and this new one has zero wifi problems and seems faster...

    just my experience so far...

    G'luck

I just switched my router from b/g/n to just n, and my PB still reports 11Mbps g/n as before.
As you can tell from the post above, the Playbook missreports its connection speed.

I must have posted this dozens of times since April, check your speed at the router setup page to see what your wifi connection speed is. I get anywhere from 24Mbps to 78Mbps reported from the routers setup/status pages.

In regards to slow or unreliable connections, try checking the logs in your router. In my case I ran into the problem a couple of years ago with the Bold 9000 not staying connected to my dlink. I could change some settings and get it to stay connected, but then other devices had the problem. The only solution was to get a new router. This summer after a Playbook os update, the Playbook wouldn't stay connected at the cottage on a dlink wireless n router. I replaced the router there and the problem went away.

Thanks for this. I checked my router status and it shows my PB under mode 802.11n, rate 65M, and 100% signal using my current DIR-655 router settings listed above.

What does this really matter? Mine is G/N @ 11Mbps, yet Ive got speeds of 35Mbps on Speedtest.net before.
    It's the same for me.
Mixed G/N at 11 Mbps and 29.28 Mbps at speedtest.net.
I have a 30 Mbps Internet connection through my ISP.

Confession: I don't know what in the bloody he!! you guys are talking about. I set up my PB at home, connected to my wifi, and that was that. I was sitting in Super Cuts the other day. Their wifi password was "super." I entered the password, I was on. I wouldn't be able to vote in this poll on a bet.

My Wi-Fi info says I am connected at 11mbps to my Wireless-G router, but when I run Speedtest.net in the browser I get:

    17.39 Mbps download
    4.47 Mbps upload

Not too shabby. I can only assume the official stats in the Wi-Fi settings are wrong.

On my Netgear Router there isn't any option to just choose between g or n and such only. All there is is up to 150 or up to 300 or b only. What does all that mean?

Got a full 54Mbps on 802.11g and 65Mbps on 802.11a/n mixed (see attached).

Of course, this is standing next to the router. And I'm a bit surprised at the poor showing on 802.11a/n. But I'm working from a 2Mbps ADSL connection so anything above that is gravy when browsing. :-)
