down fall of being in Canada, we have far less FFC devices on the market eh!
So far only people I know personally have I Video Chatted with, it has been pretty cool, except it soo limits your multi tasking, I really think BBM is where I'm staying for the bulk of my person to person digital communication
I really wanna try it....but then again I'll never use it if it remains for people with BBID only. I only know one other BB user period and they don't even own a PB...
Maybe I'll only add girls. I'd hit SmakBerry up but I'm sure she's already bombed with requests ;)
I am curious about both Blackberry video chat as well as Reelportal. Let me know if anyone would like to give it a whirl...
I just find it very frustrating that I know noone that has a Playbook. I am the first and only person so far to have one. I hope Skype comes around quick. I have contacted them so much.
I am sure once the summer rolls around more and more people will be using the PB. I am not sure if you will know any of them, but there should be more users. Skype would be nice though.
I just realized how hard it is to find a female with a playbook.. lol. I haven't used this app yet.. Im crazy anxious
if anyone is unsure of using bbid download reelportal form appworld im rdy78 if anyone wants yo test on there ill stay connected
i do not see the new reelportal app on my PB appaworld,
can someone suggest how to get it?

now how can i add contacts and start video chat
hello, i'm the developer of ReelPortal. i know the room-based concept is a little confusing at first. here are some examples on how to use it:
Reel Talk - www.ReelPortal.com: How to Use
the audio problem is an Adobe AIR/Flash issue. i had let Adobe know, and they are working to fix it. they have echo cancellation in beta testing on the desktop, so it will come to android/playbook soon i hope. for now, you should use a headset, or bluetooth speakerphone.
btw, if you don't specify a room, you'd see other folks that are not in a room like you (like in a public square). if you specify room, you will only see ppl in that room, and no one outside that room can see you.
i welcome any suggestions for improvement, but it may take sometime to put in, since i'm only working on this in my spare time, after my day job.
this is a great initiative, and thanks....
so essentially if i want to have a 'private' chat between my son at home, and me from my hotel room when I'm away on business, we just need to establish a room name to meet in and a 'key' to keep it between us? right?
2 questions for now...do the video quality adjustment options actually make a difference?
what is the P2P selection used for and how does it work?
thanks
yes, the key make the room even more secure. all you need is room, key, and time to meet up :). i modeled it after the teleconferencing system (kinda).
i think the video quality adjustments are something unique to ReelPortal. it adjusts whichever video currently in the main (large) window (object-oriented concept):
1) when your webcam is in the main window, the adjustments allow you to adjust the video quality of your webcam which is sent to other ppl. you cannot see this reflected on the window, because you are seeing the unencoded video from the webcam.
2) when someone else's video is in your main window, the adjustments allow you to change their video quality. that is, your app is sending a request to their app to change their webcam quality. why do this? because the higher quality, the higher bandwidth usage. if you have 4 video streams coming in, you may want only the main window to have high quality, and the others in lower quality. you can swap any video to the main window when desired.
P2P is peer-to-peer, which means your video/audio go directly from your device to the other device, without passing through the server. this reduces lag, so it should be preferred.
i have more details here: Reel Talk - www.ReelPortal.com: New feature: Peer-2-Peer (P2P) Streaming
sounds good anyone want to try pm will help
i just want to try this video chat out. no crazy **** , i dont know anyone with a playbook to test it

is there anyone from Mexico or latinamerica who wanna try this?
Almost nobody has a playbook down here... so if anyone want to try it my bb id is e.chavezherrera
is a Gmail account
Anybody wanna try this with me? im in Dubai and know nobody who has a PB.
@reelportal,
Like the concept, and the ease of use of the UI. I'll try it out and let you know how it works for me.
Thanks
i just did a chat with a co-worker, it was very cool.
Just tried reel portal, worked pretty good, the echo was kinda annoying but not unbearable, glad to hear they're working on a fix.
The same here. This is why RIM should put video chat on the new BlackBerry's that are to release this year. That doesnt look like it's happening until 2012-13.
i have no luck using reelportal, it always stuck on "connecting ti server"
i agree its a great tool, however, the audio hasn't worked very well for me. But, still a great app nonetheless...
