I was wondering if anyone knows if the PlayBook will support a VGA port in addition to the HMDI port?
Specifically, will it support screen mirroring through a VGA port?
Thanks.

We will see when it arrives

what about something like this: Black DisplayPort Male to VGA Female Adapter (obviously, need to find an HDMI version)
with this: Standard HDMI to Mini HDMI Converter Adapter
OR this to a DVI (most monitors have DVI ports nowadays anyway): 15ft Premium HDMI to DVI Cable
Well, probable the OP is looking for a vga adapter for projectors. At least I am because where I live most projectors on universities and conference rooms only USE VGA-out cables :p

oh, good call...projector - didn't think of that, just assumed "monitor"; even still, newer projectors have DVI inputs now too...and, if VGA is the MUST-have way, there is a company/product that I found via Google (HDfury) that may have the solution...I don't know much about them, so not 100% - but looks like it could be the possible answer for less than $100 (if buying JUST the adapter and not one of their "kits")
I'm sorry, but a HDMI to VGA adaptor will not work. The standards are simply not compatible.
There are cases of some manufacturers making custom plugs that support VGA over HDMI (hence the cables), but that is specific to those devices is is not a universal standard.
You can get a converter box that changes the video format, but a simple $30 adaptor will not do anything.
If that's the case, he needs to call me and I'll sell him some nice new projectors with HDMI connections :p (I do IT sales, mind you, im just in my second week right now, doing bits of training here and there lol)
just a projector with dvi will work.
All he needs is a microhdmi to DVI cable, as the standards are fully compatible.
Ya i know that, but then whats the fun in selling him a $20 item when I can sell him a $3000 item ;)
This is a big issue for me also. I wanted to use this in my classroom but the projector is VGA.
I was wondering if the BlackBerry Presenter will work with the PB.
Good lord you charge $20 for a cable?
I might as well just go to monoprice.
Lol Hdmi-DVI cables are about $10+ shipping lol

The HP HDMI to VGA adapter works using a standard HDMI port (here the one on my Apple TV).

So it has to work with the PB as well

It works works!!!!! I can display PB HDMI output on my VGA monitor - the HP adapter/converter seems to do the trick

The HP HDMI to VGA adapter definitely works correct? I am going to order it and I just wanted another confirmation before I did... I also need a micro hdmi to female hdmi adapter correct?
Thanks.
Correct!
Correct!
Let me know if you have more questions.

Works great here too, I ordered 2 of them and both work exactly as expected. The PB even gives you plenty of resolution options with the adapter hooked up. I found the quality to be quite good as well!
I have a nub adapter and a 6" adapter and both work well. I haven't tried hooking it to the end of my 15' HDMI cable with a joiner, not sure it will work at that length, but I'll give it a shot at some point. :D
Yes, it does work. I've seen it connected to a Panasonic projector and the video quality was awesome.
I bought this HP adapter and I can confirm that it does indeed work.
I am a little confused. The HP adapter has a full-size HDMI port. How do you connect that to the Playbook?
Just ordered one of these off eBay for $7 vs the $39.99 for the HP one, will let you know if/how well it works
New HDMI HDTV to VGA HD15 Y/Pb/Pr 3 RCA Adapter Cable on eBay.ca (item 270669878182 end time 24-May-11 23:24:28 EDT) (Has both RCA cables and VGA)
(I have a hdmi to micro hdmi convertor [also off ebay for $4, Micro HDMI Type D Plug to HDMI socket Adapter Converter on eBay.ca (item 110658889719 end time 19-Apr-11 23:44:20 EDT) , that's why I opted for HDMI to VGA vs MicroHDMI to VGA)
that adapter from hp is a well worthy investment.
in order to go from hdmi to vga, you have to have the digital signal converted to analog....and that is the cheapest and smallest device i was able to find...
you will also need a micro hdmi/hdmi adapter too.
works great!
That cord CAN'T work
HDMI and VGA are too different, to send the data and convert it, that is a scam product, the HP product works like a AC->DC conversion box to change the type of data from digital to analog.
