I'm pretty sure the device WAS released in the UK, so it should work. :)
Well unless your with EE as an airtime provider (which strictly is not true 4G just expanded bandwidth), then it's hard to form a conclusion. Remember EE issued their so called 4G network 12 months before the UK government officially issued licenses for the use of 4G frequencies???? All you have to do is look at the frequency you airtime provider transmits (so called) 4G on. If it corresponds to the pb LTE it will work perfectly. You also need to check the UK true 4G frequency cover for your area, which is very very limited at the moment. I know because I'm waiting myself to turn mine on!
As far as I'm aware it was never officially released in the UK due to lack of 4G!
There are a couple on eBay UK sellers. I'm with Voda and they've just launched 4G in Sheffield. Thinking about changing my plan to 4G with my Z10 and wondering whether to bid for a 4G playbook to see what it's like. Had a PB for two years so familiar with all it's non-cellular attributes.
Vodafone have the genuine 4G frequency so you will be okay with the pb LTE. If you have the 4G coverage in your area then its fine. It may not work in your home however as it depends on your signal strength from Vodafone who I'm with by the way. They should have a map of coverage stating signal strength both in the open and indoors. After all you are in the UK and it is October. Not wise to plan sitting in your back garden to use your pb LTE?
Good point! 4G allegedly dramatically improves the 'indoor' experience. I have a Voda SureSignal Emto which works well with 3G but I'm going to give 4G a shot not least to see how the Z10 flies with it.
Well I'm temp resident in Florida and my Z10 works fine on their 4G. I can't go further than that at the moment because I hate my two Z10s with a passion but they both work fine. I'm back in the UK this week and just upgraded my wife's bb to a Samsung S4 so I'll wait until I go back next week to see what that's like on actual 4G. Unfortunately nobody has 4G available yet in the UK where I live. I'll keep you posted.
I had thought the 4G playbook had LTE that was not compatible with the UK frequency similar to that of the iPhone 5?
The UK 4G network rolled out by O2, Vodafone and by 3 when they roll their 4G network out in December this year are all 4G LTE networks. The 3 network when rolled out will also be compatible with the iPhone 5 and other similar quirky devices that don't truly comply with 4G LTE spec.
I thought the PlayBook 4G ran on 700mhz and that O2, vodafone don't use that frequency in the UK or am I wrong?
The 700mhz band is currently in use by the DTT services and so not available for you to use. The 700mhz band has however already been allocated to the mobile phone services and the DTT are in the process of moving off 700mhz down to the 600mhz band. As soon as this move has been completed, the mobile phone companies will "click" the switch and your 700mhz devices (which are not true 4G LTE devices) will work as if by magic!. That's what I meant by quirky devices.
