I don't have the newest fancy smancy new "smart " tvs - in fact got rid of cable a while ago but was thinking of getting a new inexpensive tv for lounge viewing with antenna and playbook combo. Some of the ads say "watch tv through wireless " would I be able to watch on these tv from playbook through Bluetooth? I haven't used blue tooth - not really a techy so apologize if this question is bizarre (yes I have wireless )

I've never heard of streaming tv via bluetooth before. My gut reaction is to say that won't work.

    Bluetooth: No.

What I use though is Miracast - it wirelessly streams your screen to a compatible TV, or adapter (about $50). BlackBerry supports this protocol natively and it works great. It runs via WiFi.

Does blackberry Playbook running OS 2.1.0.1753 support miracast? If so, what miracast adaptor would you recommend?

It doesn't, sadly. The Q10 and Z30 are the only devices to support Miracast right now. All BB10 devices, and the PlayBook, do support HDMI though!

As for adapters, I recommend the Netgear PTV3000

You can use your PlayBook to watch TV via your HDMI port. Bluetooth doesn't support streaming video.

Bluetooth would be far too slow for streaming video. The only really reliable way to connect the Playbook to the TV is with an HDMI cable. With subscription fees, you might be able to use PlayOn along with a Chromecast dongle, but I really don't know if that will work; just in theory it would. You have to pay an annual subscription to PlayOn, or a one-time lifetime fee.

In theory it could work but not well because bluetooth has a low transfer rate.

You can stream music over bluetooth because music is usually only 3200kbps for the highest quality mp3s.
Video files on the other hand are at the very least 3,000kbps, but typically 40,000kbps for DVD quality.

Bluetooth usually transfer at 1000kbps unless high speed is used, which is technically just a wife connection, in which case you can transfer up to 24,000kbps.
