I never realized it till a little while ago that the PB is 10mm. That's thinner than my slender HTC HD2 and the relatively new Sensation XL. It's also amazingly as thin as the iPhone 4. I think the square sides make it seem thicker than it actually is.
Well tablets are quite large in the other direction and so have no problem fitting their components in to 10mm.
The iPad 2 is much thinner than the Playbook.
Speaking of the iPad 1 & 2, the Playbook has higher pixel count than they do. It's 170ppi for the PB and 132 for the Pads. And the iPad 2 is 8.8mm. That's just 1.2mm thinner.

Density, not count. Playbook has less pixels than the iPad (2), they're just more spread out on the iPad.
