- Let the complaining begin..."What only a 50% increase!?!"..."Ya but they had to slash prices!" blah blah blah. Hey the sales are up pretty respectably regardless of what the haters may say.

01-05-12 09:05 PMLike 0 - Thats great news, it was priced wrong to start, at the right price point these units will sell especially with the promised updates.01-05-12 09:09 PMLike 3
- sleepngbearRetired ModeratorDon't care that the spike is the result of steep discounting. The important thing is that there is still an interest in it and it's getting out there. The more PBs out in the wild when OS2 is released, the better the chances of spreading the word that it is actually a damn decent tablet. 50% is that many more PB users than there likely would otherwise have been. Under the circumstances, not bad.01-05-12 09:10 PMLike 5
- The graph only shows sales for December 23rd through December 27th. I'd be very interested to see a similar charting of PB sales in the U.S. beginning on Black Friday and ending on December 31st.glassofpinot and oldtimeBBaddict like this.01-05-12 09:18 PMLike 2

- Those are some weird numbers
, with most companys releasing their boxing day sales flyers a week before Christmas.
To show the playbook numbers falling on the 26th when the in store sales started, doesn't seem to make sense.
I personally saw at least a hundred people with playbooks at Future Shop on the 26th. ( Maybe Online sales numbers were huge!) , but I can't see people going nuts in the stores prior to the price drop.01-05-12 09:24 PMLike 0 -
- Definitely the slashed prices. That gets more out there so people can see how good it is. I think that 199 is to.low, I paid 300 for mine and I think that is good for a quality tablet. 6 to 800 is alot for a tablet unless your trying to be artistic if you know what I mean. although, having used a pb I would pay more.01-05-12 09:27 PMLike 0
- I think it is showing the change in impressions, so it may not be all that meaningful for something recently released such as the fire. That is why the iPad percentage didn't go up that much because the new iPads on Christmas day is probably a small percentage of the total iPads sold and on the internet.
A lot of the total Amazon fire sales may have been in boxes until Christmas, so it is not surprising that it has the highest percentage increase.howarmat likes this.01-05-12 09:32 PMLike 1 -

- Furthermore, it's not showing absolute quantities but rather percentages, which gives you only a partial picture (i.e. percentage increase against the base). That is, if RIM had been selling 20 units a day before (I am just making these numbers up) and it sold 30 units on a particular day, that's your 50% increase. With all this said, unless we know the quantities, the fact that it's among the other tablet "giants" means nothing.
Edit: The same has been said above already. So I second what's been said.Last edited by kennyliu; 01-06-12 at 12:21 AM.

- Interesting but not very useful. The chart apparently shows network traffic on Christmas day (captured by browser reporting on certain web sites??). Presumably it correlates in some way to pre-Christmas sales, but exactly how is hard to say. Note that iPad traffic is actually down a bit, even though, so far as I know, iPad sales continued to do quite well in December.01-06-12 12:46 AMLike 0

- I have to agree - a four day span doesn't tell you much - How many people shop on Christmas day anyway.. you would think Christmas eve?...Strange statistics. But at least playbook is in the running and being noticed..Willard814 likes this.01-06-12 02:21 AMLike 1

- After the recent sales at various locations, I'm seeing a ton of posts from people who are finally jumping on a Playbook, or buying additional Playbooks for themselves or as gifts for others. I've wanted a Playbook ever since they came out, but the price turned me off. Plus, back then I really wasn't in the market for a tablet. At the $299 price point for the 64gb PB at shopblackberry.com, I couldn't pass that up. I can't wait til I have it! I feel like I'm stealing it lol. I think that if the prices had been a hundred dollars lower for each PB size it would've sold well from the beginning.bitek likes this.01-06-12 09:33 AMLike 1
- I have 16GB Playbook which I just bought about a month ago. Now my 16GB PB does not feel like a great deal compared to $299 for 64GB. Anyways I am glad that some finally decided to try PB and what I like even better is the fact that people actually are positively surprised how cool and how powerful PB tablet is. I am looking forward to sell my PB in the future and get Playbook 2. Perhaps sometimes this year !

There was a similar post with stats from another company and you had to pay to see the really useful information. In other words, if you want to know the numbers of hits per tablet rather than the change percentage, you probably have to pay for their service.

01-06-12 09:54 AMLike 0 - Christmas day is when the presents are opened and devices go online for the first time... the data indicates the number of PBs and other tablets that were gifts... me thinks.01-06-12 10:07 AMLike 0
- You should also keep in mind that that post holiday "returns" havenlt been calculated, as retailers normally extend their the return policies for the holidays until at least Mid January.
I'm would like to see the numbers published by R.I.M when all the data is compiled.
I'm also curious to see "market satisfaction" numbers when available.
The secondary market is alive and well. I picked up another PB yesterday from a guy on Craigslist who had given it to his wife for X-Mas and she didn't want it even though she used a BB phone. He also provided me with his Best Buy purchase receipt as it was unopened, and in case there was something wrong with item. Paid $180 flat for the 16gb. I asked him why he didn't just return it as he was technically losing $30 on the sale. He simple said "Too much of a hassle to return things at Best Buy.". There are good number on the 16 and 32GB models on CL here in NY. So a market satisfaction number would also be a great way to figure if the device is capturing the "hearts and minds" of the average consumer. But I wouldn't expect to see anything of the sort until 1Q end.01-06-12 12:16 PMLike 0
