Of all the STUPID names that could be given to a RIM device this has to be
    high on the list.

The name of this device evokes something from Hasbro that was designed to
amuse a 4 year old while mommy is making dinner.

Seems like a great device. The name is absolutely horrible IMO.

Playbook. Everyone in business needs a great playbook. Like a football team has a play book it is actually a clever name that has business appeal and consumer appeal. IMHO

That's the RIM spin. Thinking on my own the name is all wrong.
As a primarily business user the name has zero appeal. I hear it
    and I think toy.

Well, what do you think they should call it? BlackPad? BerryPad? BlackBoard? RIMBook? BookwormPad?

Well a "playbook" is a term for a company's business planning, so it really makes sense.

Personally I think it's better than the iMac, iBook, iPod, iPhone, iPad, iPoop, etc. naming convention.

The ipod (non-touch) doesn't even belong, as since the first iMac the "i"*stood for internet.

Anything without the word "play" Simple enough for even you to understand I trust.

Playbook clearly has dual meaning my view. I mean a playbook is a book of strategies to help you succeed. Or is a book u play with lol Whether businessman or college student, everyone needs a good playbook. Maybe I only like the name so much bc I was so relieved they didn't go with blackpad or surfbook.

I agree and don't get me wrong, I like the looks and specs of the thing. That
name is just hellaciously juvenile. It makes the device seem like less of a
    powerhouse from the word go.

I hear people using the word playbook all the time in business in reference to strategy. It's a good name that makes sense.

I still vote for BlackBerry MotherBoard, but PlayBook works for me. I see both the business and consumer appeal to it.

I hear a lot of serious deep rooted dislike for the name of the Blackberry; dare I say, PlayBook. What I have not heard from you is what you would have named it.

It's a bit odd. It evokes "notebook", a laptop, while being a tablet, a category that displaces it. And "play" in an enterprise device, again, jarring. But it sounds cool.

    I'd call it "Jam."

    I'd rather have it "Blackhole"

I mean, it has "Black" like "Blackberry" and it certainly does not have "play" and "book".

The BlackBerry Blackhole will suck you in with its awesomeness and you'll never get out of it =D

    It's not anything near a notebook :/

I like the name PlayBook. Whoever came up with the name was pretty clever.

When I first saw the announcement by RIM the first thing that across my mind is football game plan and my friend was telling me it's also a business term. I never associated with a toy but I guess it's just the mods view and not everyone see it the same way. Everyone is entitled to their opinion though.

    playbook
n 1: a notebook containing descriptions and diagrams of the
plays that a team has practiced (especially an American
    football team)
    2: a book containing the scripts of one or more dramatic plays;
"the 1963 playbook leaves out the whole first scene"
3: a scheme or set of strategies for conducting a business
campaign or a political campaign; "they borrowed a page from
    the playbook of the opposition"

Weather it's a business term for strategic planning or a football game plan these two passage have one thing in common and it's to SUCCEED!!! Love the term.

How about "Blackberry Powerbook"? Given the specs I'd say it suits it pretty well and still has a business ring to it.

Guess I'm too much of a football freak to object to the name "Playbook". I agree with other posters here. Denotes a plan of action. Some type of well laid-out plan of action. PlayBook is sassy.

    C'mon AG...loosen up
    "Play" a little.
