I've written this numerous times now... if the PlayBook is in standby, the rapid charger is almost NO FASTER than the regular charger.

The included charger will take about 3.5h from empty to full.

The rapid charger will take about 3.2h for the same.

If, and only if, you're actively using the PlayBook while charging, specifically with the screen on, then the regular charger cannot keep up and some of the charging power must be diverted to run the device instead. Then it will take longer.

In the same scenario, the rapid charger has sufficient "reserve" capacity to not only continue charging at the full rate, but also provide about as much extra power as you need to run the device, so it will still take about 3.2h.

And that's the facts.

What's the difference between the rapid charger and the charging dock? The charging dock is much faster than the stock charger Imo. Unless I just tell myself that so I feel better about buying two of them.

The rapid travel charger puts out 2.4 amps as compared to ~1.8 amps for the standard wall charger. The PB will accept the 2.4 amps in the early part of the charging cycle but throttles the rate back in the later stages of the cycle. Thus early on the rapid travel charger is maybe a third faster but overall perhaps 10 to 20% faster. You can run your own tests helped by the useful Battery Guru App. Suppose the dock charger which also uses the magnetic port would give the same rate as the rapid travel charger. If you run test let us know the results. Meanwhile console yourself that you have a spare.

Just went to a local Radioshack in NJ, and yup no sign of the rapid charger. They did have Blackberry 16gb in display but they actually had no chargers. Guess they ran out of inventory or something.
