PlayBook Photo/Wallpaper Issue!?!
Edit: As per request an added picture :D Is this the first lightining strike captured by a PlayBook!?!
The pictures not perfect but I think its pretty cool!!!
I'm sorry for this and I know it's been discussed time and time again but I really don't care at this point, close the thread if you want... Honestly I would like to have this thread get sticky(ed) so that someone could see it and finally fix the problem cause clearly RIM is blind and they haven't seen the outrage over this one little issue.
Now to my story:
I live in Toronto, Ontario and it's been awhile since we have had a nice thunderstorm.
I was on my way back to my house when I pulled over, rolled my windows down, and watched the lightning and listened to the thunder (I'm not a storm chaser but I do appreciate good weather and there's something about a storm that relaxes me).
So as I was pulled over I was taking pictures and video and for the first time in my life (and this may not be a big deal for any of you but it's been on my bucket list) I snapped a picture of a beautiful strike of lightning... with the PlayBook of course!!!
Now here's the issue you all know so well... I go to put it as my background and it's zoomed in and distorted, yeay!!!!!
I'm not one to complain because I have no issues with my PlayBook, I'm more than happy with it.
But simply put, how hard could it be to fix this issue???
Let the comments and complaints about my thread roll in :)
Here's my wallpaper method
* Start with any 16:9 ratio image and reduce or crop the image down to exactly 1024 x 576 pixels (you can also do a Google image search for 1024 x 576 wallpaper).
* Create a separate JPEG image that's simply a 1024 x 1024 solid black background.
* Copy and paste your 1024 x 576 image into the exact center of the 1024 x 1024 black background image (easy to do with Photoshop).
* If done correctly, you will now have a 224 pixels thick black border on both the top and the bottom of your 1024 x 576 wallpaper.
* Save the finished product as a JPEG file and then transfer it to your Playbook.
Follow the above steps, and you'll now have absolutely perfect fitting wallpaper for your Playbook each and every time. Incidentally, the 224 pixels thick border that's at the top and the bottom is so that whenever the Playbook is held vertically (portrait mode), these borders function as spacers that allow the wallpaper to be centered up vertically. And you actually don't have to leave them solid black either. Myself, I use Photoshop to add some kind of a nice gradient pattern to those top and bottom borders. It adds a little extra eye candy to the wallpaper when I hold it vertically.
If you're really in a creative mood, you could maybe stash some sort of a surprise image and/or text inside these top/bottom borders. Perhaps a little humor that's only visible in portrait mode. I haven't had a chance to try this trick myself. But I really don't see why it wouldn't work. ;)
