I am considering Playbooks for all three of my kids for Christmas however I don`t know if they are age appropriate (a 15 year old and 2 10 year olds). My older daughter has an iPhone and I can set the age restrictions for her music and apps' but I don`t see these settings for the PB. I am not getting iPads for the kids as they cost so much (I`m not an Apple fan at all) and my wife and I already have Playbooks. As tablets go, it`s Playbooks or nothing and if there are no parental settings it`s nothing.

There is some setting in appworld but I'm not sure if the child can override that. Don't associated a paying account and they should not be able to purchase apps????

I have a 12 year old girl and a 9 year old boy.
They all have Playbooks but I have all of them linked to my credit card for apps.
    Only I know the password......
The boy somehow guessed one of them...but now it is reset.

There is no setting age restrictions for surfing the net.
They can still access porn if they want.....how do you prevent that...?

I've got the same problem, but my router supports opendns, so I control through the router not the device.

I am not a mod but one will be here soon enough, so everyone slow it down a pace.

I ask that crackberry not only closes this thread but shuts it down so that nobody else has to read it. I do hope, however, that you will message him the few (I think 3) relevant post here so that his question was not in vain.

Ignoring the 12 year old posting in this thread and answering the OP... The PB has adult controls over the Stores (App, Music, etc) that RIM owns, but nothing else AFAIK.

Yes, PM me and I can explain how.

Appreciate the sentiment, but I'd rather clean up the crap, and leave the useful info, for all to access.

Thread now open, but help or stay the heck out.

Is there a way to be an at home IT dept and lock the devices down? Id be comfortable removing the browser completely so my kids could just use the apps and read books and take pics. Ideally though Id like to limit the sites they can go to.

I don't think that's possible with the current OS - programmers can't affect other programs. There is an app to LOCK/hide files/folders but NOT apps.

The best think is as suggested by other posters: setting up a filter through your wifi router. It's easy and efficient. You can block websites by url or by keywords.

If I can get a free one or cheap one, that will be better.
