My niece pb's screen is black but I can get the tablet to work when I connect it to a computer screen via mini hdmi cable. How can I restore the pb screen. She told me she never dropped it!

Try rebooting. If that doesn't work, try turning it off by holding down the power button fro about twenty seconds or until the Plabook shuts down. You will then need to press the power button, wait a few seconds for the red light to show it is booting.

The final way is a hard reset, where you hold down both the volume keys and the power button until it reboots. If you hear the camera click sound, you didn't do it properly. Try pressing and continuously holding down the buttons is this order, right volume, power, left volume.

If none of these help, connect to a PC with Blackberry desktop manager on it and do a backup. Then do a debrick, which will reload the software.

How old is the unit? Could be something came loose inside. There is no guantantee that reinstalling the OS will work. I've not read of many screens going completely bad. Good luck

The PB has a one year warranty to the original purchaser. It also has 90 free Tech support. I do not know how Rim deals with "quasi-tech support v. warranty"

You mean, you will dissect it...

If the repair cost is reasonable and affordable, much better to give it to those guys who got "swiss knife" and skills... rather than experiment it like a frog...

But if the repair cost is almost the same as getting new one, dissecting would be fun while learning... hope you video it and let us see the fun...

Im having the same problem with mine. I can tell it is on because the backlight goes on everytime I press the power button only no image. Let me know how the dissection goes. Was thinking it has a loose cable inside too.

Have you tried PRESSING and HOLDING the power button for 10-20 seconds. Then leave it for a similar amount of time and the red led might come on for a reboot.

Yeah I've tried that a number of times and even a hard reboot, no luck. I finally had the guts to take it apart. Pretty easy to do as long as you are careful. As soon as I took the cover off the screen came back on. I made sure all the cables were secure and put it back together. I guess I am lucky, so far it is still working.

I think the problem is that I keep the PB in a bag that I carry around all day. It probably gets alot of subtle abuse that must have caused a problem. Oh well hope it keeps on working!

I am having the same issue. Very frustrating. Worked temporarily with Blackberry Desktop Software. Did a factory reset, but now it's not working because it's asking me to set up on my Playbook, but it DOESN'T TURN ON!!!!!

The ribbon cable for the LCD is pretty sensitive, and finnicky with regards to the connector. If you pop the back cover off, I would release the ribbon cable, and re-seat it.

Hi all, I can't believe I've only had my Playbook for a year and 3 months (just out of warranty) and now it's stopped working for me. I'm sure the exact same thing has been posted in another thread or even this one, but can't go through 79 pages right now.

Anyway, I HAVE tried everything I've read so far. Have charged and reset numerous times. I just get a blank screen when I turn it on and even after I charge and reset it. Some have worked temporarily (best solution I found was to go through Blackberry Desktop Software which worked a few times, but it just goes back to the same problem). I'm pretty frustrated. Last thing I tried was to choose to go back to factory settings/look for upgrade through Blackberry Desktop Software. Now it won't let me connect because I have do setup on the Playbook before connecting again. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO DO SETUP ON MY BBPB IF IT DOESN'T TURN ON!

Tempted to just buy a new tablet. Not sure if I would go with Blackberry again. Just wanted to confer with the experts before making any rash decisions.
Does anyone know if Blackberry support charges for calls after the 90 day grace period?
