Hopefully someone can give me an idea here because I am completely tapped out. My playbook no longer will connect to my mobile hotspot. I have no problems connecting to any other wifi and every other device thats in the household can connect quite readily to the hotspot, except my playbook. It used to without a hitch. Now....not so much. IF it will get passed the connecting phase, it will time out on trying to obtain the IP address. Anyone got any ideas on how to get this going again?

I had one mobile hotspot connection that did (or didn't do) something similar and I deleted it, rebooted (just for good measure or maybe I was bored), then re-added it and all was fine after that. Several other MHS connections work automatically every time and have worked for couple of years without issue, but this one quit connecting at all until I did this. Best of luck and of course as will all Blackberry issues, YMMV.

Hi, I don't know what you are trying to connect your pb to? A quick start would be to delete the hotspot from your pb. Restart you pb and then add the hotspot again. If you've already tried this please ignore my stupidity.

Thx for the reply but Ive tried that route several times over. It doesnt seem to make a difference in either case.

Im trying to connect it to my 9810. I didnt have any issues until about a month or so ago. Deleting, restarting and readding would seem to do the trick but not at all in my case

Have you check if you can connect to your hotspot using other devices? If the PB is connecting fine to the other wifi, perhaps there is something wrong with your hotspot?

If the advice given above does not work like deleting and rebooting your hotspot, perhaps this is an issue with your carrier?

Its not the carrier or device since other phones, ipods and even a laptop can connect to it without any delay or problems. Its somewhere within the playbook or communication with the device

Have you tried changing the key for the hotspot? Three finger salute?

That's highly unlikely since you say that sometimes it even gets to the point where it connects and then tries to obtain an IP address. That means that the connection between the two devices has been successful and now it looks for authorisation and of course an IP address from the carrier? That is being denied so I would think that's where to start looking. Deleting the connection on the pb and setting it up again usually solves most problems. I am a visitor to the US and I'm with Vodafone in the UK. When I'm roaming over here I notice that I get the worst service whenever my phone connects to T-mobile. Are any of the other devices connecting to the 9810 hotspot bb devices?

And how many devices are connected? Have you tried with nothing else connected?

Oh yeah, every device I have that is wifi enabled can connect to the hotspot without any issue at all. Only the playbook is having problems.

This happen to me on my 9900 and Playbook. After an update to 9900 the playbook will no longer connect to the mobile hotspot - Could not obtain an IP Address from DHCP. I called RIM support for the 9900 and found that there is an incompatibility with the Playbook's DHCP request and the 9900 update to the DCHP service. After a long diagnostic period with the guy on the phone we found that using a static IP address (not DHCP) on the playbook for the 9900 connection to work. If you don't know how to set a static IP Adddress let me know and I'll walk you through it. also, they said they will not update the playbook anymore - not even for bug fixes like this.

Why would you want to connect your wife's 9810 and your sons 9730 plus all the other devices through your 9810 wifi hotspot? Are you using your 9810 as the main router for your household entirely?

I am having the same problem with the 9900 and playbook hotspot connection and would really appreciate the step by step walk through.
