My playbook notifications light flashes occasionally but i cannot get the screen 'up'. I'm plugged in to charge the device but have tried it unplugged as well. Any advice?

I would do a "soft" reset and hold down the power button and push the restart when it appears. That hopefully will clear your notifications out.

Thanks. When i hold the power button for approx 15 seconds the notifications light quits flashing but the reset icon doesn't appear. The screen stays dark. Then, when pushing the power button again, the notification light starts flashing again but nothing on the screen.

Does it allow you to reset the playbook? If not, hold down the power, up and down volume all together until it powers off. Then it should power back on. What color is the light?

If the soft reset fails and you're still having the problem i'd try a hard reset, hold vol up vol down and power button (together) for 5-7 seconds.

doesn't allow reset - nothing visible on the screen. the notfications light flashes red - two flashes about 5 seconds then repeats

Also if you can get into applications on it still, go into video chat and accept the user agreement. It sounds like this may be a low battery type indicator and you need to charge and get rid of that video chat agreement that has caused many playbook's to drain batteries.

Also use the power adapter and not just a usb cord to charge it.

But holding the 3 buttons at the same time, Power, VolUp/VolDown should restart it.

the screen doesn't light up at all so no way to tell if battery is charged.
finally talked to BB and tech support advised the device must have been stopped or disconnected during software update. am attempting a fix now.
    thanks for the suggestions!

Ok. Remember your Playbook comes with tech support from RIM. Let us know what it takes to get it running.

I just had this happen, and posted about it a few minutes ago....I had to connect it to my laptop and hit "update" after DM failed to connect to the Playbook, and it re-installed the OS.

It fixed it, but wiped the device clean. I have no clue what caused it to happen. If RIM can tell you, I'd love to know what not to do!

The only thing new I did on my PB today was install 2 apps...."My File Manager" and Pipeline.

Safetyguy: I don't suppose you installed either of those prior to your device locking up?

i had a similar problem. apps were ok but setup screen was locked and pb did not charge. Soft reset did not work at first but did eventually.
I had installed one app. worked after holding on/off for about 15 seconds.
    works fine now.
