Just heard on CTV news this morining: BNN report that the Playbook is going to be killed by BlackBerry :(
It is already dead... perhaps they referring to be "buried"...

Murder by ineptitude.
What does that even mean? If you're referring to the lack of BB10 development, there are dozens of threads about that
Murder by design!
(We could keep this up all day, I am sure)
Went looking for a possible story about some official announcement and did not find anything but I might have missed it.
Remember as far as bad is concerned, Apple are the leaders. I don't mean devices I mean the company ethos. Compaq run a very close second! Very close!

Just checked my PlayBook and its not dead yet!! :dancing:
Which, pretty much, indicates that even the 'we will support the PB' is a lie.
RIM will do what it takes to avoid a class-action lawsuit and not much more.
^this
Class action suit by customers is to be avoided because of bad publicity the company can ill afford. They better off spend the money on pushing the update.
Those be stards killed pb

Not dead.... just crippled. Cut off at the knees and made to walk the green mile.

my c734tu laptop is a classic example. thanks to compaq. which like RIM forced me to work on. after blackberry playbook, reverse engineering? i will be reverse engineering my compaq laptop. i already did a lot to it like enable virtualization and enable some cpu states and enable microsd boot and et al. still i have a big challange. sorry i am about to go off topic. the board from intel is cool. but many things are under NDA and reverse engineering is the only hope. i couldnt agree any more with you on compaq
i use it as a god damned gaming station. combo of playstation + xbox + nintendo wii + joypads. what i hate is? they stop all support and wont release any info. which makes a perfect working device perfectly dead.
anyone in the same soup as i am, OEM/ODM's not releasing info, the vital info, which can help independent developers kick off with the rest of the development?
thanks!

I remember a bunch of people wanted there to be a class action lawsuit for the STORM.... but it didn't happen.
I imagine that all BBRY would have to do is prove that BB10 will not work on the PlayBook and that would end the matter.
I think that it was wrong for RIM/BBRY to repeatedly promise that the PlayBook would get BB10. For me I wish I had known before I decided to keep my Z10.... it does work better now that I have a leaked OS installed. But not having a working BRIDGE is make having a PlayBook / Z10 combo almost useless.
Now I have a Tablet that won't see any updates or be able to use any new BB10 applications.
And I have a Phone that is only going to see just a couple of carrier updates. I had taught that BB10 was going to be one new OS for all devices, but it is still a very fracture platform with different OS version required for each device and even for each device variant. So in a year when the Z10 is replaced by a newer model we can pretty much forget about their being updates....
You can hate Apple all you want, but the software updates don't leave using behind like Android does and like BB10 appears it will.
Tell my old boss that, with a first generation Apple TV. Or my Aunt who bought iWeb, only to have it and MobileMe web hosting discontinued in the iCloud update. :-)
You are right though, Apple seems to be establishing a firm policy of generally supporting 2-3 devices backwards whereas BlackBerry and Android, you never know what will or won't be updated! My 9700 got BlackBerry 6 (and its benefits) but my 9800 did not get BlackBerry 7
i feel guilty too. i patched my bios (opensource bios called coreboot) with a file which converts it into an probook and lets me install OS X. i did install OSX and then i wiped cleaned my drive. i did it just for fun and excitement. and also as a POC that yes even normal laptops can also install OS X or a hackintosh, but w/o much mucking around. just patch the open source bios source with the patch file and viola!
insert the apple OS X disk, lion, not mountain lion. t60 and x60 is too slow for mountain lion, and it installs from the disk, w/o hacks thinking its a probook :-D!
worth the adventure. but waste of time. i was bored, and mood was off. so to kill time i did that adventure *** experiment.
dont ask me to do it for your bios. i cant do it for all bios. and if i did know, i still wont do it. DONT ASK! period.
thanks!

All roses have thorns.
Unfortunately this rose was killed by its own thorn.
Well, AAPL has the advantage of controlling the hardware and software of what 3 or 4 devices (iPod, iPad/mini, iPhone). Android has a multitude of hardware and manufacturers. Google did a pretty good job of updating their Google Experience Devices. I went from HC to ICS to JB. Most only get one upgrade. I would have expected more from BBRY but what can you say?
