I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but another thing I use my PlayBook for is as a file and media store for my local network, by using the built-in web server!!! Then you can use any device in your house with a Web browser to see your PlayBook 's files, even an old Curve (to stream music for example).

To access, install BGShell on your PlayBook from the app store. This will let you open a shell terminal. Next, browse over to your shared folder. You need to know some basic Unix commands.

Type "ls" to list the directory. To change directory, use "cd". For example, you should type "cd shared" to get to your PlayBook files folder where if you then type "ls" again you will see sub folders like downloads, documents, music, videos, etc.

Now for the main command. Type:

    python3.2 -m http.server

This will run a web-server on your PlayBook rooted to your current shared directory. Take note of your PlayBook IP (will be in About section of settings)... something like 192.168.x.x.... in my home my PlayBook is on 192.168.1.74.

I can now use any smartphone, tablet, PC or ipod to browse to 192.168.1.74 to view my files! On my old Curve 8900 I need to browse to "http://192.168.1.74:8000/" to view my files, either open and stream or save.

Anyways, just some more fun to have with your old PlayBook, never ceases to amaze me how useful it still is after all these years.

By the way this works the other way around too... I can run BGshell/python on my BB10 phone and copy or stream stuff over to my PlayBook browser. Just make sure you include the port like 192.168.2.34:8000/....

You can also type "netstat" and get a rundown on all your connections when you are in the Shell. Works for sure on BB10 and probably also Playbook... someone please confirm.

Confirmed. There are tons of other qnx commands that works. Try to tap 'TAB' button after first letter then you will see list of all available commands starting with that letter (unix style) .
